I?ll start this review with a big sigh as I don?t know where to start. The facility is run down and the ceiling has so much... water damage, it is disgusting. Twice I felt something drop on my head. The food was very filling. I had the EnchiladasRanchero, which is cheese stuffed into a corn tortilla, rolled in red sauce and topped with shredded beef. The shredded beef wastender but the enchiladas were soggy. The service was super slow with our server forgetting tortillas for the Polo Loco, drinks,napkins and had to be reminded several times. Maybe they are struggling to staff the restaurant and this is reflected in theservice and condition. Read more

Rating based solely on food served and for service. It's been a LONG time (10 yrs) since I've dined here, and nothing has... changed...which, in this case, is not a good thing. Chairs are worn with split covers, ceiling tiles are stained with waterdamage and mold, walls are dirty and damaged, the lobby is uninviting and cluttered....looks like the "before" of a much neededrestaurant makeover on Restaurant Impossible. Service was quick, attentive, and pleasant. Entree portions were generous. Chunky Style guacamole was just that...diced pieces of guacamole ingredients...and not easily enjoyed, and seemed lacking intaste. Entrees were enjoyed, but nothing special. The food and service was great. I don't recommend the Carne Asada here for street tacos. The meat has too much fat (hard fat as... well), lacking the onion and cilantro. The large burrito was wonderful and the kids enchilada had a great flavor. Read more

We chose this place upon arrival to Chattanooga because we were craving margaritas and Mexican food and El Meson was close to... our hotel. Turns out, we found a place worthy of 5 stars that we?ll think of first next time we come to Chattanooga. The listedclosing time was 10pm, we arrived about 8:15pm. We were greeted by a huge genuine smile and guided to a high top table near thefull bar. That was perfect for us as we were on the hunt for jalapeño margaritas? which we found on the menu and promptlyordered a pitcher of. Chips and salsa were served up and we toasted the evening with our salt-rimmed glasses and perused themenu. Dorados Tacos (beef) and a combination platter of flautas and a mini chimichanga, one with poblano rice, the other withrice & beans, definitely hit the spot. The jalapeño margaritas hit the spot and washed everything down. Actually, we couldn?tfinish everything right then, so we took some home and I promise you, nothing went to waste. Almost as good on day 2.Almost. Service was excellent, food authentic. Five stars. *** During our meal, we observed a different server deal with achallenging guest at a nearby table. The way in which he handled the guest and the situation only solidified our new love of ElMeson. I?m pretty chill with anything but this was disgusting and unacceptable. Not only did I find a huge yellow fingernail in my food... it was in the bite I took out of my food. I feel completely repulsed. I also was only discounted a few dollars when my wholemeal should?ve been taken care of. This is a huge health hazard. Read more
