Reviews for CACTUS MEXICAN RESTAURANT in Charlottesville, VA

I work near Cactus so I thought I'd try it out. In my opinion, there are several better places to go for Latin food in the... C-Ville area. First off, the restaurant is disgusting. If it was on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, it would need a two partspecial. There are flies everywhere. Old papers hung up all over the walls. Greasy tables. Dusty fixtures. Everything is notonly outdated, but nothing in there looks like it's been clean since they first opened. People keep talking about the Pupusas. Now I'm white.... and even I know those things are bland as all get out. They taste like just plain and raw doughy. Fourthly, the staff is as bad as some of the other posts. I waited 15 minutes before being acknowledged to pick up my to go order, and themales employees stare at you super inappropriately. I will wrap up by saying I believe Cactus Resturant to be the bland hospitalversion on Latin food. They must have lost their authenticity. Read more

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Virginia, the interior is super authentic, the staff is really polite and the food is... from another world. Whenever either me or my wife are having a bad day we come to eat here and it never fails to cheer usup. Ps: They bring you the food you order very quickly Read more

Not bad. Tasted better than Guad. Next time I'll ask for extra enchilada sauce. Their salsa was good. Chips are very thick &... crunchy but good. I will be going back to try more. I didn't see any flies & the server was nice & I didn't have to wait likesome of the other reviews. Prices reasonable too. I recommend for trying something local that's new. Read more

While the food was good there was a discrepancy in the pricing. All of us in the group got the 4 tacos and were told it?s all... the same no matter what meat we got. Upon getting our bills we realized this was not the case. The price varies depending onwhat meat you get. Again, food was good, but I expected better communication on the price. Read more

The food beats all the other Latin food places in town, hands-down. Honduran dishes and perfectly cooked,, tender meats. Carne... asada you can write poetry about. Burritos you could park a mobile home on. Read more

Sometimes a massive plate of Mexican food is exactly what you need in your life. I have often found a hole in my life is best... filled with homemade tortilla chips, fajita tacos, a side of refried beans and cemented a cold Modelo with lime. Cactus MexicanRestaurant in Charlottesville, Virginia, provides authentic Mexican cuisine at a reasonable price with friendly service. Now, Iwill say that it is hard for me to knock Mexican restaurants, so most Mexican places I will say are worth frequenting. I'mreally into that category of food, and I love spicy, so when a dish is delivered with a giant, roasted jalapeno, I'm probablygoing to enjoy whatever else is on the plate. Some of the things I look for in a Mexican restaurant are the location and qualityof chip and salsa. Is this place in a random location? Any good restaurant can survive in the busiest part of town, but if yousurvive off random a street then you know people are seeking out that food because it's tasty! Additionally, you can tell a lotby a Mexican restaurant based on the chips and salsa. Did these come from a bag, or are they still warm? Is this salsa unique,or run-of-the-mill? All I'm saying is, Cactus is in a random location, with excellent chips and salsa. Read more
