It makes me really sad to have to write this... My husband and I have been going to Toyama for well over a decade, since 2009!... It's always been our favorite spot (not just for hibachi but in general). We are really, really disappointed in how far downhillthey have gone. Prices have gone up, portions are about half what they used to be (I get inflation, but just charge more don'tcut our plates in half), every aspect of the plate was plain compared to how good it used to be. The broccoli was plain, ricewas "meh", chicken and steak weren't as flavorful and DRY. Only the carrots were the same. My husband gets the chili sauce andhe said it seemed watered down. Also, we were going to dine in but we have a 1 year old and they didn't have any high chairs. They used to, when our oldest was smaller.. not sure why they would get rid of them. So, sad to say, but after 13 years we needto search for a new hibachi spot.. Read more

I?ve been going to Toyama Express for YEARS. It?s always been my go to for Japanese food. I?ve sent many of people that way.... However, it?s not what it use to be. They use to feed you and give you a nice amount of food. Now they barely give you enoughand the price has gone up. So increase in price, less food. I stopped going for a while because of this and decided to try themagain but they have failed this city. My husband counted 4 mushrooms in his meal. 4 mushrooms!!! These meals were over $13 apiece and we got 4 mushrooms, hardly any rice and a small amount of protein. The least you can do is give a nice amount of rice. Also, the food isn?t as good as it use to be. It?s still good but not like it was. I?m extremely disappointed in Toyama and willhave to go else where. All we ask is for the amount of food to match and reflect the amount paid. Read more

Not good. Had 2 meals and 2 drinks for $38. Portion was not small but not great. One order was wrong. Meat was over cooked and... really bland. No flavor at all. Will not be coming back!! Read more

Had the fish and steak combination plate. Fish was a little dry and steak was over cooked but it was only like 17$. Noodles were... a little dry too but everything was edible. Tempura vegetables were decent with the sauce. Portion size was fine but everythingwas bland. Lucky they provide yum and soy sauce. Read more

Me and my family have been going here for years. During and after the pandemic I?m assuming the restaurant went down hill. We... ate there today and the food to dine in is served in to go boxes, the portions are SMALL so yes everyone commenting that it isthat is correct. Prices also went up. We will not return as we were unimpressed. Do better! Read more

This place was amazing when I was in college ? great food, solid portions and unbeatable prices. I continued to come here even... after I moved to south Charlotte because it was my favorite hibachi spot in Charlotte. As others have mentioned, this place hasunfortunately gone downhill. LAUGHABLE portions + increased prices. They should have done one or the other, but you can?t doboth. I?ll no longer make the drive to come to Toyama. Sad! Read more

Used to come all the time. The portions have definitely gotten smaller and the isn?t the same quality as before. My husband... orders the shrimp and scallops which was $15 and he got 4 small scallops. I got the teriyaki chicken and the broccoli was notcooked or cut up. I wasn?t going to leave a negative review but this is the third time in a row that I?ve gone and have gottensick. I am not sure if my chicken wasn?t cooked properly, some of the pieces had a strange texture. Definitely not coming back. Read more

Title : RIP OFF FOR $20 Meals - expensive, small portion sizes & tough & dry I used to go to this restaurant a lot prior to the... pandemic and I even saved it in my favorites for Japanese restaurants in Google, but I have deleted this restaurant as myfavorite and I won't be returning. I paid $20 for 2 teriyaki chicken meals and the portion sizes were extremely too small forthe price I paid. I paid $10 per meal and the portions were unacceptable. I have left a picture of the food that they servedme. I even asked if they could provide me with more chicken for the price that I paid because I could count the pieces ofchicken, and I was told no and that this is the size that they give. I let the cashier and manager know that I would be doing aGoogle review on them, and long behold I see that others have complained about the same thing. I will NOT be returning to thisrestaurant. The food wasn't even good. The broccoli was too hard and the chicken was too tough and the prices were tooexpensive. All I really had was rice. I should've gotten a refund because it wasn't worth it. The picture speaks for itself. Read more
