Reviews for New South Kitchen & Bar in Charlotte, NC
If I ever go back to New South, I will keep it to drinks and appetizers. The so-called Dirty Bird was a tasty take on a martini,... and the deviled eggs were on time. However, the entrees were just okay. The catfish was slightly below median, although thesuccotash I got with it was incredible. The chicken & waffles were standard fare, nothing to condemn or commend. Finally, thepot roast was reasonably tasty, but was a hefty $25 for, again, pot roast. This place has sort of an upscale "meat & three"vibe. It will likely do well with folks from the surrounding neighborhood, but I can't imagine people traveling too far to eatthere. Read more

I’m not sure why we’ve waited so long to try New South Kitchen, but I’m glad we finally dined here! Nicole was our sever... and we could tell that we were getting service with a smile — even with a mask covering it. She did a great job of makingrecommendations when we asked about her favorite menu items. Warm biscuits and butter are served with the meal in true Southernfashion. We started with a small plate of Baked Pimiento Cheese with red pepper marmalade and wonton chips. It was gooey anddelicious— with the marmalade taking the flavor to the next level. For our entree, we enjoyed the Chicken & Waffles. Thewaffle was Belgian style and SO LIGHT! Most chicken and waffles I’ve had in the past were served with syrup but these wereserved with gravy and warmed jalapeño jelly as a counterpoint. Nicole wisely suggested that we order the jelly on the side sothat we could control how much jalapeño heat we wanted with each bite — and she was right. The jelly does have a bit of akick. All in all, the meal was delicious and the service was excellent. And with many items on the menu that we’d still liketo try, we look forward to returning. We used Open Table to make our reservation and were happy to see upon arrival that theywere separating guests by only using every other table. We also witnessed the servers going the extra mile in cleaning eachtable as each party left. Read more
New South is a hidden gem in Arboretum. The food is consistently good and the seasonal menu changes to highlight fresh... ingredients. We’ve had a birthday dinner here but usually stop in for lunch. Our favorites are the Fried Chicken, NC Troutand Shrimp & Grits. Service is friendly and the restaurant dining room and bar is pretty cool as well. Parking is alway easy inArbo so no worries there. If you’re in the area stop into New South. It’s worth the trip. Read more
