As much as I would like to give 5 stars I simply cannot. Don't get me wrong though, the food was AMAZING. My family and I were... feeling like we were starving street leaving Folly Beach so we were good and ready to eat. Getting us seated wasn't so bad,getting us fed was the absolute worse. It took 25 minutes to even take our order and bring water. It took another 30 minutes forus to get it and it was wrong, missing food and just confusing to the server. Once the manager came in, she jumped into actionand had everything to us in no time. I believe the older gentleman that was just waking around was the owner, and I was takenaback that he did nothing to assist the staff. Even the other staff didn't help each other. Seems they lack training. Again, thefood was really good, and KUDOS to the manager that walked in and got the ball rolling rolling!!! It's a great spot, they justneed to sort each other more. While visiting Charleston for work I decided to try a new place. I will say that gillies had the best food I?ve had since I?ve... been coming to Charleston. I had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. For dinner I had the the combination dinner withshrimp, crab cakes, collards and hush puppies and it tasted amazing. The shrimp also tasted very fresh. I highly recommend thisplace and I will be back. Read more
When I tell you that this is some of the best food I've had in a while.... I took the first bite of that fried chicken, sat back... in my chair and needed a minute. Tons of flavor and very juicy. The collards and red rice were amazing and the mac and cheese ishands down the best in town, period. The soul rolls are out of this world as well. Super friendly wait staff was the cherry ontop for my visit. Will DEFINITELY be back. If anyone tells you the food here isn't good, stop talking to them. You don't needthat negativity in your life. 1st time visit. Upon walking in after leaving an all day Folly beach trip, we asked if we could sit outside after seeing a nice... outdoor eating area and were sternly told NO, you can pick a table anywhere here in the middle, so we grabbed a table in themiddle on the inside. We ordered the pick 3 basket, shrimp, scallops, flounder. Also the baked chicken with 3 sides, and ashrimp taco. I'm definitely a fan of the shrimp taco, the sauce was really good, so was the Ranch and so was the BBQ! The bakedchicken was really good, cornbread really good, mac n cheese really good. This was my husband and I first time visiting this place on Saturday, February 5. Granted we have seen the Moonshiners low... country cook off show, which they won. Therefore it was a must try restaurant. Needless to say we was not disappointed. The foodwas absolutely delicious and amazing. It should be a sin for food to taste that good. Oh my goodness the cornbread is to diefor, it is extremely fluffy and full of flavor and so delicious. I could eat the cornbread a lone. All desserts are homemade, wegot the banana pudding. My advice get 2. The soul food egg roll, be prepared for your taste buds to experience what outstandingfood really is ????. I can go on and on. After a day of self guided touring, we ordered pickup and ventured across the bridge from downtown Charleston towards Folly... Beach. An easy drive on a Sunday. We ordered via phone. Wait was 25 minutes. The venue was right off the main road. Parkingavailable in the front and back. We didn?t know they offered outside dining however it was packed so we maintained our to goorder and ate at our hotel. My partner and I split a 4 item basket and a 3 choice veggie platter. The seafood was delicious.Seasoned well. Fried to perfection w/o being too crispy. I enjoyed the friend okra as well. The Mac and cheese was okay. Thegreens were tender yet underwhelming in taste. I?m here visiting for a quick getaway and was recommended by a cashier at Walmart to check this place out. The negative reviews... did make me nervous but I was so pleased that I experienced the exact opposite. Everyone was very friendly and greeted us whenwe came in. the food was so good that it was hard to narrow down what we wanted. Our server Danielle was very welcoming andnice. So glad we came. We will be back before leaving Folly Beach to try other items. Definitely come check them out and makeyour on decision. Read more
