Seriously, one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in a long time. French onion soup, amazing. Our entrees were out of... this world. Duck, Chicken, and scallops. Definitely will return next time we're in town. Read more

We were there for the late lunch, and we both ordered sandwiches. The portion was so generous we ended up taking half of our... sandwiches to go. The atmosphere was relaxed yet fine dining setting. It has a great selection of cocktails. Flavor-wise wasspot on. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Read more

This is hard because the food is absolutely 5 stars. Some of the best mussels my Mom and I have ever had and that includes both... of our experiences in France and my Mom's experience in PEI AND Brussels! They were huge and we tried 2 of the 5 sauces and theywere absolutely delicious! However there were 3 major issues we encountered which are just big restaurant "no-no's" especiallywhen you are paying these menu prices. 1) Our service was just terrible. This was a specific waiter issue but we were there foralmost 3 hours. We were with my 11 year old niece so we were not doing "leisurely French dining" and that also was not thisplaces' MO considering MANY tables that were seated after us finished well before us. Our waiter passed us several times when weneeded things and even sometimes when he was carrying items for our table! Appetizer plates were left on our small table thatneeded more room through dessert. He just seemed really spaced out and like he kept forgetting us even though we were at thetable directly in the center of the dining room. 2) Many of our glasses, plates and silverware were dirty on the table when wearrived. I know it all went through the sanitizer but in the days of post COVID when people are just trying to get back tonormal, you can NOT start the meal off with dinnerware that has food caked on it. Just no. 3) We had a direct view into thekitchen/washing area and there was someone in the back washing dishes that kept bringing them out, that was full on wearing atrash bag. Like had put holes in a trash bag for the arms and head. I get it can be/is a wet job, but this is supposed to be anupscale restaurant and we were CONSTANTLY distracted by the trash bag man. We wanted to scream to the manager, "GET THAT MAN APONCHO FFS!" especially if he was going to be in the view of dining customers. I just don't understand how you allow that -there are ways to handle that without the dishwasher wearing a trash bag period but if they insist the Read more

We recently had my son’s wedding rehearsal dinner at the Upstairs At Rue. We are from VA so we were not able to view the space... or taste the food prior to the event. We planned everything through email with Kate, which was a great experience. Let me tellyou, they did not disappoint! Very spacious room. We had 44 attending but plenty room for more. The tables were nice and big andtheir setup was perfect for what we were looking for. We ordered the Southern Buffet and food was cooked perfectly. If you arelooking to add appetizers, do yourself a favor and order the Pan Seared Tuna on Wonton Crisps. I could have eaten those allnight long. The staff that evening was impeccable. From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left, they were superhelpful, very friendly, and completely on their game. We had quite a few guests who commented that was the best service theyhad seen in a long time and I couldn’t agree more. Honestly, there is not one negative thing I can say about our experience.Top notch all the way! My guests are still talking about how great it was! I added a few pictures of how we set it up with ourdecorations. The table that has the pictures was our dessert table. Our desserts came out later due to refrigeration. We had 2standing round tables that we added votives and flowers to for people to stand and talk at. Candles are allowed as long as theyare inside vases. Read more

I love Rue de Jean! The food is delicious and ready on time. I phoned in an order for takeaway and it did not disappoint. The... Caesar salad was delicious. Do yourself a favor and order the braised short rib - it’s life changing delicious. I also got abottle of house red and it was surprised me how good it was. Another night I ordered the fried goat cheese salad and a burgerwith fries. The fries were some of the best I’ve had, the salad was small but exceptional, and the burger was very bare bonesand a hit over cooked. Overall, Rue de Jean is one of my favorite spots in Charleston.
