My son always gets excited when I tell him that he has an appointment at UNC because he knows that means we are going to Mama... Dips! Usually, before I visit a restaurant whether I have been there 10 times or 2 I will check the online reviews. I sawseveral reviews mentioning that the food was not as tasty as normal. I was a little hesitant but still decided to go. Let's justsay....I am not sure what was happening on the days that the negative reviewers came to visit, but whoever was in the kitchenduring our visit was on point. Everything was delicious! The green beans were canned but I honestly didn't mind...that was theonly thing that wasn't seasoned. Something not pictured that I ordered was the squash casserole which was divine! The dessertreally ended our meal on a marvelous note, I had the peach shortcake and my son had the cream cheese pound cake. We left withour bellies full and in the words of my late great-grandmother....we have dined sufficiently! We will definitely be back andcontinue to support this business. Service was great as well. We went as a group yesterday evening and loved our experience. The food was absolutely delicious and everyone loved what they... got (including our vegetarian). I had the chicken livers which were cooked perfectly. At the end we had strawberry shortcakewhich was divine and hands down the best I've ever had. The staff was super friendly and kind. Overall an excellent experienceand we can't wait to return next time we are on town! Read more

We arrived between 1:30 and 2:00. We'd heard good things and were excited to try new things here. I ordered the fried chicken,... BBQ ribs combo. Sides were slaw, collards and a buttermilk biscuit. Nothing was hot. The chicken was dry, like it had beensitting out for a while. The 'ribs' were individual small dry segments. The biscuit was room temperature and had no appeal atall. I took one bite of each item in case I'd just gotten a fluke, but the entire meal was a disappointment. I'd be ashamed toserve a guest at my home such a poor meal. Read more

Service was amazing. Super friendly. Expected more flavor. Saw all the ratings inside so I was expecting the best. Mash potatoes... was meh, corn wasn't sweet Read more

We had a wonderful lunch at Mama Dip?s restaurant. The fried chicken was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The... macaroni and cheese was delicious, as were the yams, rice and gravy, and green beans. The chicken pastry was excellent. Saveroom for the chocolate peanut butter pie! Our server was a delight and very attentive. Read more

I would give 3.5 stars so I?m rounding up to 4. Pros: food overall tasted good. Service was exceptional! Our server was... attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself is lovely and has a nice vibe. We ate inside but the outdoor dining lookedbeautiful. The strawberry shortcake was stellar. Cons: the main con is the price vs what you get. My partner and I both got thechicken fried steak. Comes with two sides and choice of bread. Meals were about $15 each so for that price I was definitelyexpecting more in either quality or quantity. While quality was good, it wasn?t the caliber of $15 for that amount offood. Ultimately I would recommend this place because of its location, easy parking, good vibe, and generally good food. Don?texpect anything amazing, but it wasn?t a disappointment. Read more

My rating reflects the value...cost in relation to the overall experience. I actually give it 3.5 stars not just 3. The Hostess... and wait staff performed well and were nice/friendly. We enjoyed the taste of the food but nothing wow'd us. The abscense of the'wow' factor combined with the small portion sizes resulted in an experience a tad lower than what we were expecting, given theprice of the meals. The outdoor seating on the porch, especially on such a beautiful day, was top notch!. Just needs a downwardadjustment with the prices, a little more something special with the food, and/or slightly larger portions. Read more
