Reviews for El Rocoto in Cerritos, CA
Great selection of food. Steak, chicken, fish, shrimp. Very tasty. Love their sauces.
My family and I have been going to El Rocoto since their opening more than 20 years ago and we have nothing to say but that this... place is amazing. Truly authentic at its best! Sure there are times where they?ve hit a bump on the road but this last timethat we were there (Sunday 08/14), we had an excellent experience. We started off with Papa Rellena and Anticuchos de Corazón.The Papa Rellena was so soft and flavorful. The salsa criolla that accompanied had all the right ingredients and really added tothe dish. The Anticuchos were well cooked and the sauce was made just right. For our main plates we had Saltado de Mariscos andLomo Saltado. Both excellent plates that had tender pieces of meat and good ratio of meat to fries. For dessert, we hadPicarones which were also drool worthy. They were crispy, sweet, and soft. Read more
It was July 28th, Peruvian ???????? Independence day, and my family wanted to take me out to El Rocoto Peruvian restaurant to... experience the unique South American flavors. Fair warning. You won't find any kind of tortillas or refried beans on thesedishes, nor tomato based sauces, etc. That's more Central American. Since my family were raised in Lima, I tried a seafood dishI shared with my family called Ceviche. Basically, cured fish, sweet potato and Leche de Tigre. (Look it up). Then I ordered aseafood plate called Pescado (fish) Macho. It was a generous piece of fried fish with an assortment of seafood stew underneath.Mussels, shrimps, octopus, calamari and scallops mixed with a creamy sauce. It included side dishes like rice ????, papafritas???? (fries), and a salad ????. I washed it down with Cusquena golden lager ????. It was a lot of yummy food. Guess whyit's called, Macho. Didn't wait long , food came out hot and fresh. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable on the menu.Atmosphere had modern architecture with Latin music ????. We would return again. Recommend to everyone not looking for Tacos orburritos. Read more

First of all Peruvian food cost more and more these days. That would be dandy if the food was on par with what they charge.... Sadly, in this place, it?s not so. We used to go by driving one hour each way. The pandemic put a stop to eating at a table for2 years plus. Finally today we arrived around 7:30 PM. Service was prompt and pleasant in every way. Food became theissue. Ceviche Mixto Criollo, $17 each. Ordered 2 and overall was one of the two best dishes. Ceviche, of course, the primaryreason to go. 4 Stars. Anticuchos, marinated beef heart, $14. This one with the price hiked, a very sad choice. Why? Used to be3 wooden skewers with at least 3 pieces of meat in each. Plus typical sauce, and roasted potato. No the wooden skewers were halfthe size, if not less. 2 instead of 3, and to add insult to injury 2 very thin, hard to chew pieces. Mini Anticuchos is whatthey should have been named. A joke on us. 2 Stars. Pulpo Parrilla, $18. Pulpo being Octopus , and when prepared right verydelicious. This one was half the mark, extremely chewy which to me meant they did not bother to brine the Octopus, unforgivableoversight for the amount and price. 2 Stars. Tamal, $12. Became apparent that the batch were this Pork Tamal came from had seenbetter days. Crumbly all quality exhibited before missing. For the money spent no good. 2 Stars. Parihuela Salvaje, $22. Thisdish when prepared correctly well worth its high price? Parihuela is like the French Bouillabaisse a la cheap, or even Sopa 7Mares Mexican style. When the broth expresses the bounties of the seas, and the selections are in numbers to be savored, definitely a winner. This expensive version was not bad, lacking perhaps a little more variety? 4 Stars. Their sauces are tastyand the free bread old but warm, easy to eat. Service all around, as mentioned, nice. Water only drink a little off, no filterin the back. Total bill: $108 plus. Adding the somewhat fair 15% came to over $122. Peru distinguishes on their qua Read more
