The Hy-Vee Market Grille in Cedar Falls used to be really good and very busy. They made some changes and the food service is... horrible. We had waited for over an hour for a very simple food order. The restaurant was not very busy and they kept tellingus, it would be 10 more minutes. We finally just left the restaurant. It has gone downhill horribly. Read more

My husband and I recently had the same type of experience at the Hy-Vee Market Grille. We sat up at the bar, which was... considered full service, and it took over 10 minutes for the 1 employee to just take our drink order. She said she would helpus shortly, but she went to the tables and took food orders, made drinks, went to the kitchen and got food, rang up customers'bills, etc. while we sat there waiting. We ordered a hamburger to be cooked medium well and when it finally arrived after along time of waiting, it was very well done, burned and dried out. She asked us how the food was and when we told her, she justhanded us our bill and walked away. Other customers were complaining about the food and service also. My first few visits to the Market Grille were fabulous! Loved the place! This time, not so much. My son had warned me they... had cut back on menu items, that was an understatement. There was ONE person working. She covered the jobs of Waitstaff,Bartender, Cashier for the full service and for the self service. That's another thing... it's a restaurant. Self Service? Isn't that what my kitchen is? On to the food... My husband ordered a burger and fries. I ordered a ham and cheese omelettewith hash browns. He had no complaints about his burger. My omelette tasted like a burger. Greasy. Not right. I actuallythought my omelette was cooked on the same surface as the burger without cleaning it off. Anyway, my bottom line is that themenu doesn't have the higher class items I had expected from previous visits and I don't feel the need to go back again. I feelsorry for the waitress who had no one there to help her. I wonder if she feels appreciated by her employer or if she justwonders when the ax will fall now that she's the last one standing. Love the daily specials here! Everything on the menu is great, I have not been disappointed with anything. The sushi is some of... the best in town!! This is a great place to bring a group or a nice place to have a quiet solo dinner. The food may be a littlemore pricy than some places with comparable items, but it's worth every penny. I was genuinely surprised by how good this place was. It did not feel like I was eating at a grocery store and the menu was... very diverse. Everything we got at the table was delicious and they often run good specials/offer many coupons. You can get avery good and cheap meal here if you time it right. Beer tap selection was also great. Usually i would have given them 4 stars, but we went for the Thanksgiving buffet, and what a let down it was! First, all the... meat was cold, second, there was no fresh turkey carving station, they served pressed turkey. The meat at the carving stationwas ham and prime rib, coldddd. There was no place to put your plates once you were finished. The sides were also lame. nomac and cheese. sausage was cold too, eggs were gross. Fruit looked way out of season.
