Reviews for Gourmet Kingdom in Carrboro, NC
The cumin lamb and mapo tofu were good. The pork knuckle wasn?t as flavorful as we thought it would be and the bamboo was... bitter. The service was friendly and food came out pretty quick. Read more
Portion is relatively small and the taste is not amazing. There are multiple parts can be improved: 1. need refresh the inside... and get better light. It's dark inside. 2. The chief need to improve their skills on both flavors and heat control. We got bothpork dish overcooked. And for the appetizer, besides missing ingredients, it also missing spicy and sweet seasoning. Theeggplant is missing the spicy and heat. The spicy chicken nee to be less salty and little bit sweet. Should try their ricenoodles since they look good on pictures. By the way, their live fish is fresh and tast good with a pretty okay price. Read more
The smells alone fill me with joy. Have so much patience and send love to these wonderful people running this business. They... seem to be short staffed so don?t come here if you?re in a rush. Also if you?re in a rush all the time and get angry at peopleand places for not being ?perfect? maybe check out some Nicole LePera ig posts. Read more
Bad. Pick a different Chinese place because the food here will not taste like you expect. I got my wife beef lo mein and it... didn?t taste like lo mein you can get at other asian restaurants. It tasted totally drab. My chicken and broccoli also didn?ttaste like other places?. It has less flavor and i didn?t like the flavor. The egg drop soup just tasted like oil. Read more
This place used to be the best. We were regulars before 2020. We ordered takeout in April 2021 and said we would not go back but... here we are August 2022 and we gave it another shot. This time we dined in. The dining room is absolutely horrendous now. Wefigured it was just odd now because they wanted the seats more separate so we sat down. After ordering, we noticed the floor iscoming up in several places and it?s just concrete. The table was sticky and even after wiping with our own wipes it wouldn?tstop being sticky. The waiter said a menu item was unavailable which is really not a big deal but gave us a menu to look at anddidn?t return for 10+ minutes to get the replacement. Our food came except for one dinner (not the replacement) and we were toldit would be a few more minutes. We all were finished eating and waited another 10 minutes before my husband told the woman upfront to cancel it because we were ready to go and just give us our bill. Instead they tried to bring it out to us. Beforeleaving we visited the women?s restroom and it?s is absolutely disgusting and the handicapped stall is used for all the brokenstuff to store I guess. It looked like it is never cleaned. It really made me nervous about what the kitchen must look like. Ihonestly don?t know how this place has passed any health department inspections. Read more
YOU MUST COME HERE, pick this one! I have been ruined to any other place now and forever. The tofu, I have never experienced any... so good. We ate too much, it hurts, & it was worth it. Holy cow. OMG. The dumplings... also the best we have ever had. For Real!?? Thank you GK Read more
April 2020 Gourmet Kingdom, or Gourmet Kholesterol, is one of my favorite Chinese eateries in the RTP area. Specializing in... Szechuan cooking, GK contains a wide variety of authentic dishes - ranging from different proteins and vegetables. Here are somerecommendations; Spicy ???? Szechuan Spicy Fish, Pecan Shrimp ???? , Twice Cooked Pork ????????, Stringed Beans, Garlic Eggplant????, and Mapo Tofu are all great dishes. However, I strayed from the typical pathing and got a soup this time. I tried two:Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and the Seafood Rice Noodle Soup. Both provide excellent portion sized. The spicy one definitely has somespice and heat to it. The seafood one is a little bland for my liking but definitely just for some chili ???? oil and douse thatish in like no tomorrow. It?s pretty good. But definitely try that beef noodle soup (comparable or even better, IMO, toVietnamese Bun Bo Hue). Both are around $8.25 per bowl, definitely bigger servings than any Pho restaurants in the area. Try it???? Read more
This spot FINALLY ended my search for great Chinese food in the area. We had wonton and egg drop soups, which were wonderful,... and shrimp lo mein and pork with green onions. Both were really great and the portions were more than enough for us. The foodwas ready quickly and the folks we interacted with were super nice. Give this spot a try!! Read more
