If you're on a mission for a true mom-and-pop neighborhood hole-in-the-wall restaurant, "Skip's Kitchen" is definitely worth... checking out. Considering this place has had a lot of recognition, praise, and positive vibes as well as being one ofSacramentos' top restaurants, I had to see what the whole fuss was about. Having been opened since late-2011, this place hasbeen doing things right with their delicious comfort food. Located directly on El Camino Ave. (with Mission Ave. being thenearest cross street), this place is situated right at the Carmichael/Arden border in a predominantly residential area. There isa small parking lot near the rear of the business as well as generous outdoor seating (with green turf) located outside on themain street. Inside, there are at least 12 booths that vary in size for small and moderate sized parties. The large glasswindows provide a ton of natural light. Additionally, they offer a self-serve fountain drink station as well as twogender-optional restrooms. Upon entry, you grab a menu and order directly at the front counter. I like this concept way morethan an actual waiter service since it expedites the entire ordering process. After placing your order, the cashier lays out afull deck of cards face down. IF you pick the Joker out of the deck, your meal is FREE! All I grabbed was a deuce so I didn'twin. However, your card is basically used as your "order number" when your food is brought out to the table. Definitely a uniqueprocess that I've never seen before at any restaurant. After looking at the menu, I ended up going with the "B.O.M. Sliders"(which came as a trio of 3). These sliders included bacon and onion marmalade, house sauce, and provolone cheese. I chosecriss-cut fries as my side as well as a "Grilled Caesar Salad" which had charred hearts of romaine, crostini, Caesar dressing,and shaved Parmesan cheese. Great food and absolutely outstanding service. I got the western burger, it was juicy, flavourful and filling. The staff were... very friendly, and the service was great. This was my first time trying and I'll be definitely coming back. Read more
BEST BURGER I'VE EVER HAD HANDS DOWN!!! The waffle fries were good as well, nice and crispy. I would've preferred a bit more... crispness to the wings as well but not bad! Had a great time at Skips. The three cheese burger was really amazing. I would have never thought of Brie on a burger but it... totally works. The mac puppies were delicious. The staff was incredibly friendly and even came up and refilled my drink (not badfor a counter service self service fountain drink joint). On the way out Skip thanked me for coming to his restaurant. It was apleasure to be able to tell him how much I enjoyed it. Looking forward to coming back. Read more
I've heard about Skip's for years, but have never been. Today we were in the mood for burgers so we made it a destination. We... both had the Western. They were cooked to just under medium so the burgers were juicy. The bacon and onion rings were crunchyand the bun was soft. It was definitely a 4 napkin burger. They should come with wet wipes. We also had the Mac Puppies whichwere hot and crunchy on the outside and rich and gooey cheeseiness on the inside. The staff was friendly and attentive. My burger was so juicy. I got the mushroom burger and he got the western. Our food was delicious. It was seasoned well and they... even messed up on part of my order and quickly fixed it. My husband got their shake not pictured and he drink it with inminutes. Go here for great food and service. Read more
Exciting vibe with good food restaurant. We have sweet potatoes fries with skips original burger and steak sandwiches. The sauce... in the steak sandwiches makes their sandwiches so special. On the menu they said it has Gorgonzola cheese and other ingredients.Although I am the person who doesn?t like blue cheese, their sauce taste was so good. Compare to the sandwiches, the burgersauce was not impressive. However the patties in burger was juicy and fresh so i think it can compensate the sauce.
