Reviews for Juniper On Main in Carmel, IN
Service was underwhelming, food wasn't great-undercooked Brussels (admittedly good seasoning), spicy pimento cheese dip was mild... and very much Velveeta-esque, crab Rangoon tacos had strong fishy flavor, grilled tarragon chicken was tough and dry enough tosend back and the sauce was pretty bland. Interior decor is extremely minimal and bland as well, worth noting is a large amountof patio seating. I've seen great reviews and pics from here so maybe this was just an off night...but it was pretty awful. Read more
Location, atmosphere, and patio are very nice and walking distance to Carmel shops. We tried this for the Devour Indy menu but... got a few other items to try since it was our first visit. The team/lemonade and appetizers were good; main courses wereaverage. Overall, it was underwhelming considering the higher price point based on locale. Concepts of the dishes sound veryappealing, but execution and seasoning were subpar on our visit. Plantains were good. Cornbread was okay. Corn chowder wasrunny and the texture seemed more like frozen corn with cream added. Fried green tomatoes were very good. Tea and lemonade weregood. Sea Island platter had chicken that was bland and the dish as a whole was under-seasoned. Short-rib and Pimiento GrilledCheese was good. Fries were good. Hummingbird cake was delicious. Read more
TL:DR Average southern food; above average prices. Came here for Devour Indy and we tried the Sea Island Platter and the fried... chicken platter. The first thing that came out was the creamed corn soup. It was pretty good. The seasoning that was put on topwas key. Unfortunately both the fried chicken and the chicken on the sea island platter were dry and flavorless. The balsamicglaze on the sea island chicken was necessary to make that dish more juicy. We also ordered a Sun King to drink, it was unusualthat the price was listed as ?market price? but I gave it a shot and only realized that ?market price? meant the most expensiveSun King I?ve ever gotten once the bill arrived. In short, if you?re in Carmel and craving some chicken and plantains head toReggae Grill instead. Read more
Very nice outdoor seating. I love the atmosphere with the over head lights and casual set up. The services was pretty slow, but... it was a Friday night so that wasn't a big deal. I enjoyed the flight of deviled eggs, it was very different spin on thetraditional starter. The cornbread was more like corn cake with a very very sweet butter. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't verygood either. For the main course we had the Surf and Turf special and the Fried Chicken Plater. Everything was flavorless! Mychicken was dry and the breading had no flavor. The only way I was able to eat it was with the mash potatoes that did have someflavor from the gravy. We got the steak rare, but it tasted like they drain it underwater, then cooked it. The lobster was chewyand also had no flavor. Now the baked potato cakes were descent and the green beans. We also got an extra side of Mac andCheese, it tasted like it had been brought in frozen then microwaved. It wasn't horrible, but not worth $6. Unfortunately I willnot be going back, but it was a cute little place in downtown Carmel. I just wish the food and service were better. Read more
This a a quaint little place in Carmel with good food. We were celebrating a birthday and while the restaurant was tiny, the... staff was terrific and we enjoyed it very much. The deviled eggs were a clever twist on the usual and very tasty! Go for casualdining with friends or family, relax, and be yourself kind of place. Read more
Location, outdoor seating and the service are the best things this restaurant has to offer. The sangria and crab cakes were... really good too. The salmon was just ok. I believe it needs more flavor to it. Nice place to spend time with friends and drink acouple pitchers of sangria. Read more
First of the food gets 5 stars, but the rest of the experience gets 3. We have been here 3 times now and everything we have... tried was delicious! The service is always friendly. But the staff are very young and even the older members dress in a randomhodgepodge of spandex shorts, dirty t-shirts, and otherwise a general unkempt appearance. That could be over looked if it wereT for the restaurants weird reservation policy/practice. We usually come around 3-4pm and are always told that we can be seatedas long as we are gone by 5 because tables are reserved. And then everything feels super rushed as we sit in a nearly emptydining room. What is the most odd is that I went to their website and it mentions reservations no where. ?call us to reserveyour table? or even a sign that says ?dinning room by reservation only? would help. But there is no mention of it anywhereexpect when the 15yo hostess makes you feel like you are causing such a burden wanting to eat there. We keep going back becausethe short ribs are the perfect comfort food cooking, but management should really examine their procedures and make expectationsmore clear. If it were my restaurant I?d want my staff to be more presentable as well, but that?s a secondary concern to theoff putting reservation situation. Read more
