We were in Carmel for a few nights with our adult kids and wanted a good food experience while here. I?m sure some of the... downtown places are good, but Village Gem has them all beat. The food from Chef Alex and service from Amir were all perfect. The grilled artichoke, mussels and meatball appetizers were delicious and all of the entrees were perfect (Pork schnitzel ,lamb chop special, fisherman?s stew).\nThe atmosphere is unique as it?s tucked in a courtyard to a small hotel, but if you?reafter a great food and service experience than you should definitely eat at Village Gem. We stumbled upon this rather hidden away restaurant by hazard, having exhausted other options. We were game for anything by that... stage, so fortunately we settled in for what turned out to be a memorable meal. Although it was a cool night, we did thetraditional Carmel thing and ate outside, under the gas heater, with blankets provided. The food was all excellent, and we wereextremely well looked after by the friendly and knowledgeable waiter. It is perplexing that the place was almost empty and Ihope that turns around for the new owner because they are doing a splendid job. I ate the lamb cutlets with polenta and adelicious sauce, sticky and rich. At the table we also had the salmon (pictured below), the Berkshire pork schnitzel and agorgeous bottle of local wine. Highly recommended. Read more

Wow! Place was recommended to me and exceeded all expectations! Had the lamb and my wife had the seafood stew. Both were... incredible. The broth on the stew was rich like bisque. So good! To cap it off we had the cheesecake and it was like no othercheesecake I?ve ever had. Texture was light and fluffy, while the flavor was like the best cheese you?ve ever tasted. Have tohave it!!! This is an awesome restaurant. We have brought many of our friends here for lunch or dinner and we have always had truly... excellent meals. The food is innovative, fresh, and flavorful. Some of my favorites are the homemade porcini mushroom ravioli, the artichoke with a truly unique black aioli, and the bread pudding. My husband had the lamb special last night and loved it.The service has also been excellent on every occasion - both friendly and professional. We always feel very welcome and welltaken care of. We had the hand made ravioli, salmon and fluffy pastry appetizer, the salmon entree cooked medium well, and a cheesecake to... finish it off. They were all spectacular. Ravioli was very melt-in-your-mouth kind of dish; I do think it could have hadstronger flavor. The sauce that went with it was probably the best ravioli sauce I?ve ever had. The medium well salmon entreewas tender and juicy. I didn?t expect a bed of vegetables underneath; it was a great add. The cheesecake was very soft, like amousse and the strawberries and berries that went with it were perfect.\n\nI did not expect the quality of the entrees to bethis splendid after a first impression of the restaurant. The atmosphere isn?t wrong, it?s just very quaint and more low-key.Like a humble hole in the wall kind of place. But it was nice. I?ll definitely consider coming back when I?m in town. Server wasgreat ????, very kind guy. Read more

Really delicious meals, attentive and pleasant service, nice relaxed and classy atmosphere with melodic jazz or piano music,... really lovely and relaxing. 4 stars only because we had to wait for the entre quite a bit - this was for dinner (startersarrived quite fast). If you have plenty of time and want to enjoy good wine and nice evening, this doesn\'t have to be aproblem, but wouldn\'t recommend to parents of young kids. Perfect spot for a romantic date or a catch up with someone you havea lot to catch up on :). Also fair to say this was July 4th evening and the restaurant was packed - the entres might be fasteron normal nights.\nWe had crab cake, soup of the day which was tomato with white beans, artisanal bread, grilled chicken breast, and today\'s special - black cod. I also had the lemonade. All meals and drinks were really delicious and also really light andhealthy, we felt great afterwards. Would definitely come back some time when we have plenty of time for dinner. Thank you forthe great experience! Read more
