I've been going to Horace and Dickies since maybe 1996. The now closed H Street location was where I became a fan. There have... been several locations over the years but the one thing that I can say is that the fish has always been consistently the same.Other menu items have come and gone but the fish is exactly what I expect it to be each and every time I go here. You know howit is when you go to one of your favorite spots and "depending on who's cooking today" is the experience you will have?Yeah...not here. I mean, it's hard to screw fish up but the breading, quality, etc have not changed one bit. The value is goodtoo. At this price point, it's hard to write it off as a poor dinner option. Visited for the 1st time and highly disappointed. The crab balls are just terrible, I couldn't tell if crab meat was in it from... all the filling & seasoning. The Mac & Cheese horrible.... tasted like they used chicken broth in it with some unusualseasoning. The yams basic. The only thing I ate all of from my order. However, stomach been upset every since I ate there. Notto be funny but I knew it was suspect when all I saw was elderly clients. H&D is known for their fried fish. Absolutely THE BEST fish in the DMV. Food is always fresh! Always consistent, definitely won?t disappoint. They also have daily... specials under 10 bucks. You can?t beat it! Read more
Went here today and we had the chicken and whiting combo and the shrimp and whiting comb, mac and cheese, collard greens and... potato salad and the banana pudding. The collards and the potato salad were sweet to me and the mac and cheese tasted as if ithad Lawry's in it. Now if you come from a household that seasons their noodles for mac and cheese I'm not accustomed to that butit's probably going to taste good to you. The banana pudding was alright, it reminded me of eating cake batter taste wise. Theconsistency was whipped and light, not so much a pudding and I appreciated that. First time at this place. We were a bit late for the crab. But the whiting fry was good. Wish there were more bread slices.
I don?t know how I feel. The juice was amazing. Macaroni dry as hell, the crab cake well let?s just say I am a little... disappointed. I should assumed that it was a tad bit too much filling and I?m not too eager to try the greens at this point. ButI?m going to because I?m fair.. (mediocre) They aren?t very tasteful. My first time ordering from here and I am very disappointed. It?s like when you spend so much money for overpriced food and it?s... not good it?s heartbreaking! especially when it?s something you?ve been craving for a while. So now I?ll have to starve becauseI couldn?t enjoy my food. I got the crab fries and the sauce wasn?t it for me! It was very bland and tasteless and I didn?tenjoy the texture.
