Reviews for JIN BAR in Calgary, AB
My husband has wanted to come here for awhile! Everything we had was delicious. The sweet corn and honey butter fries pizza was... THE best pizza we’ve had in Calgary. It was the star of our meal, but everything was overwhelming delicious (we had the friedchicken and a taco as well)! The staff were wonderful as well! We will definitely be coming back in the near future to try otheritems on the menu! Read more
Really cute place with a good location just across the river from East Village. The fried chicken was so delicious, however,... the sauces were too sweet so we enjoyed it more without the sauces. The breading is really flavourful. Korean Pizza is reallyheavy and salty... and too sweet. Maybe it's not my favorite kind of food. However, I would definitely go back for the friedchicken. Service was pretty good too. Read more
Restaurant has a nice vibe to it. Food on the other hand is overrated. $16 for 4 pieces of Korean fried chicken (KFC) is a joke.... Sure, the flavour is there but not for that price. You can get KFC at other restaurants for way better value. Pizza was alright, pretty interesting flavour selection but as you can tell in the photo, the pizza we received was pretty burnt. Not impressed.Overall, overhyped and overpriced. Read more
Was able to catch up with some friends over some food and drinks at JINBAR. The room and atmosphere was nice. Service was good.... We ordered the Honey Butter Potato Chips, Green Mango Slaw, the Beef Bulgogi and Cajun Fried Chicken tacos, the Honey GarlicButter and Dragon Breath Fried Chicken, and and finishing with Warm Chocolate Lava Cake. All the items were tasty enough. TheFried Chicken was the highlights for myself. As stated in other reviews, the portions are small but the food, service, andatmosphere was good. The price is the price and if you eat a lot you might be disappointed. But if you are looking to try somesmall dishes and have some drinks in a nice chill spot - I would recommend checking out Jinbar. Read more
The fried chicken gets 5-stars - one of our favourites! This review is for the recently released Chef’s tasting. We were... excited to try it as we’re fans of the fried chicken, but were disappointed in the flavours and portions. The first dish wasfried chicken and caviar. The chicken piece was small and there was so little caviar you couldn’t taste it. Sadlyunderwhelming knowing the price of a normal order of chicken. The ahi tuna crudo was great, but also available on their regularmenu. The main was a 72 hour sous vide galbi. Very tender and wonderful. But at the end of the evening we were still hungry. It was the first weekend the Chef’s tasting menu was offered, and we’re fans enough to give it another try, but the regularmenu is already so great I expected more from the Chef’s tasting. Read more
Everyone around us ha been raving about good the fried chicken at this restaurant was so we were looking forward to trying it. ... Once we tried it we found out why it was everyone's fave. The fried chicken only uses dark meat with no bone in. Each piece ofchicken also had a piece of skin attached to it, thus creating the most delicious piece of meat and crispy fried chicken skinyou had ever had. The chicken was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside, who wouldn't love that? An order of chickencame with 4-5 pieces of chicken but it didn't feel like you got much meat. It definitely wasn't very filling. We had orderedthe family meal that also came with popcorn chicken, fries and a side salad. The salad was just chopped up head of lettuce withsome halved cherry tomatoes, nothing too special. The popcorn chicken was our favourite of all. Loved the bits of crispy ricecakes and no surprise but the popcorn chicken was also all dark meat. The flavouring was very yummy, had bite but not toospicy. The fries comes seasoned and a side of spicy ketchup. The ketchup sure had bite. Overall, gave a 4 only because wedidn't feel the value was there for what we got. But other than that the food was good, don't know if we'll be back for thefried chicken, but maybe to try something else on the menu. Read more
Literally one of the best fried chicken I've ever had, and I have been to most of the fried chicken places. The dragon breath... flavour was amazing. 10/10 would come multiple times and get fat. Read more
Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it. Started with the fried Tteokbokki which was delicious. Crispy... on the outside and chewy on the inside. Next up was a bulgogi taco. Nothing special here but still very tasty. The taco shellis warm and soft and didn't run the dish like it can when not done right. This was followed by Dill and Garlic RoastedCauliflower. Another tasty dish and unique flavor with the red curry. The main event was the fried chicken. I really wanted totry the gochujang flavor but didn't think my 4 year old could handle the spice so we went with the honey garlic onrecommendation from the waiter. This might be the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. The outside is perfectly crispyand the batter is not too thick. The inside is super moist and cooked to perfection. I'll have to go back next time I'm in townto try the gochujang. We finished the meal with the condensed milk ice cream. I didn't taste the condensed milk much, it mostlyjust tasted of vanilla. We really wanted to try the bulgogi pizza but would not have finished it. I wish they made anindividual sized one since everything else was "tapas-like". Gave it 4 stars due to price as others mentioned (would give 4.5if I could). Portion sizes are quite small for the price but that should be expected especially with the current food costs. This is upscale Korean pub food and overall we were very pleased with the food and the service. The quality of the fooddefinitely reflects the price, but it's still an expensive dinner. Read more
