I?ve enjoyed the place a lot in the past as the ?high end sushi place in the neighborhood,? when you wanted to take friends out... on an occasion. This time, they were out of a lot of stuff and the service was not on point; waitstaff was friendly but didn?tseem knowledgeable or able to describe things clearly. Hoping it was just an off night. Really good quality sushi and the omakase menu provides great options. The service was great and hospitable. This is a great... sushi spot if you don?t want to travel into the Manhattan and want to stay in Brooklyn. And the price is amazing. You canprobably find cheaper, but the quality won?t be as good. Definitely recommend bringing family and friends here if they enjoysushi at a good price. Read more

I went to Katsuei the other night. Pretty nice. The best sushi in Brooklyn they say. ?If the fish was any fresher you will have... to catch it with a hook.? I read. Very nice place. Sterile, I could probably operate on these tables?. service was ok. Was itthe best sushi I ever had? At least the best I had in Brooklyn? Unfortunately I?ll have to say no, it wasn?t. It felt likethe owner thought it is though. ??????? Read more

Omakase was reasonably priced but more importantly, their fish selection is very good and very fresh. We got many fish from... Japan and fish that is not normally served elsewhere. Their Saba, sawara are all house cured and prepared and it is so good. Ican't wait to go back to this place! Read more

Fantastic meal! Perhaps they've been reading these reviews and course corrected because we had excellent service, the waitstaff... was very attentive and helpful, and they are also now serving tap water. The sushi and sashimi omakase included several heavenlypieces of otoro and the price was amazing for the quality. Read more

The consensus among reviews is that this is the best deal Omakase you will find in Brooklyn, and that service isn?t great. Both... points deserve more explanations. First, there are a few Omakase options: the regular nigiri Omakase for $55, and the sashimi +nigiri for $75. They also have an open style Omakase mixing seasonal fish with some of the regular pieces. This last option isavailable at market price, which was $108 in our case for 12 pieces. We took the open style Omakase and didn?t regret it. Thefish was super fresh with a smooth texture, something we haven?t been used to on the East coast (sorry!). The seasoning in eachsushi was also original (seaweed, yuzu, scallions), which was more in line with what we expected from an Omakase. Specialmention to the sea urchin, which is always hit-or-miss. In this case, it was excellent. One disappointing note though: inalmost every sushi, the seasoning was slightly overpowering the dish, making it hard to taste all the subtlety of the fish. Thisimbalance was a problem, but despite this issue, the overall menu was quite good, and 12 sushis was enough for a dinner. As forthe service, it was actually fine. Our waiter was nice, and described every sushi with lots of details. In the end, was it thebest sushi of our life? No, but who cares, it was really good sushi, and definitely as good, if not better than some pretentiousoptions that charge twice as much in Manhattan (*ahem Yasuda*). Read more

Had a kanpachi collar app, and multiple nigiri from ch?toro to kohada and unagi. Pieces are on the smaller side, but the fish is... perfectly cut and exceedingly delicious, seasoned appropriately and sumptuous. My only regret is not having more time to tastemore of the menu. It's been a few years since I visited Katsuei and I'm just as happy as I was on my first visit. Read more
