Reviews for Gage & Tollner in Brooklyn, NY
The best meal I’ve ever had. The artistry and love that goes into the food is matched by the respect for history, the... restoration done to this restaurant is jaw dropping. The brass and woodwork are stunning. But, it’s the food, prepared withcare and inspired by the legendary Edna Lewis, that is the star and will keep you coming back and raving to family and friends.I love dessert and the pastry chef is one of the best in the world in my opinion. The drinks are delicious with a lovely winelist to match. The service is incredible, attentive and knowledgeable. We arrived with no reservation on a Saturday and we wereseated up in the parlor to have a drink while we waited, it was cozy and the bartender friendly. Before we knew it they hadspace for us. It’s all so seamlessly done, they put other restaurants to shame. The she-crab soup, the fried chicken even thehashbrown are dishes that stay with you and coat your soul. Come here for a special occasion, bring family and friends, reminisce about the yesteryears of Brooklyn. Your tastebuds will thank you. Read more
By far one of the best meals I’ve ever had! If you haven’t been to Gage and Tollner, you need to go… now! My wife and I... had a great experience when we went last weekend. I highly recommend reservations as we arrived at 5pm when the restaurantopened. There was a line out the door! If you are looking for a great meal and a restaurant with some history- this is the placefor you! We started off with a cocktail, I ordered a dirty gin martini- excellent! Then we had some appetizers- we ordered somedelicious bread made from their own homemade bread starter, affectionately known as Edna- delicious. I ordered a shell steak,medium- probably the best steak I’ve had. The presentation was superb and the steak melted in my mouth. Stella, our veryknowledgeable and attentive waitress, recommended the hash browns… steak and hash browns? Anywhere else, I’d pass but atGage and Tollner, the best! We also ordered the kale coleslaw- which makes me wonder, why can’t I always eat kale in the formof coleslaw? Fantastic! Lastly we had the Baked Alaska! Wow! Incredible and worth the price! Easily feeds two… or three…gosh probably even four! It was as beautiful as it was delicious! Once our meal ended we headed upstairs to the Sunken HarborClub! How can you skip the nautical undersea cocktail lounge upstairs? The drinks are unique and flavorful. Look no further ifyou’re in the mood for a great meal, an awesome ambiance and a hidden gem! Beautiful landmark building with beautiful interior, love that they maintain it’s original charm, we learned that the... chandeliers are the original fixtures that were once gas lamps. The meal commenced with warm soft bread and spreadable butter. As appetizers, we ordered the Cornmeal Fritters, which were delicious with a hint of zucchini flowers. Roasted mixed Tomatoesthat tasted like the sweet ???? and sunrise bumblebee with a crunchy breadcrumb mix. Next came the Mushroom Soup Ras el Hanout,Porcini Butter “schiumata”, it was very good and clean (not overloaded with salts and sugars), followed by a Sunflower &Field Bean Risotto (Roasted Mushrooms and Shallots, Sunflower Seeds, Cashew Butter, Fine Herbes) and the NY Strip steak cookedmedium (which was slightly over cooked). And last, but not least (my husband favorite part)… the Baked Alaska for Two whichconsists of Fresh Mint, Dark Chocolate, & Amarena Cherry Ice Cream Layers, Chocolate Cookie Crunch, Toasted Swiss Meringue. Thepresentation was fantastic, as was our server, Alexandra B and staff, all working harmoniously together. The temperature in therestaurant was comfortable throughout the entire experience, not too cold or hot, it was just right. Read more
Incredible dining experience with decadent food in a stunning space. We started with the Parker House Rolls which were... incredible with the butter they served with it. The strip steak I ordered was good but nothing too special. The hash brown wasalso pretty good. The highlight was the baked Alaska for two served with Fernet. I had the Turf Cocktail and my partner orderedthe Sherry cobbler for drinks. They were both excellent. The turf was perfectly chilled and the sidecar was a classy touch. Therestaurant is a bit loud but has a ritzy old school New York feel to it. The service was excellent and it was a greatexperience. I think it is easily a must visit Brooklyn establishment. Read more

I wish I could give 6 stars. This should make your list. The menu has too many good options. We’re going back to make sure we... try everything. Tonight’s menu included the mushrooms and roasted beets for appetizers. Then seared Yellow tail and the porkfor dinner but the best part of the meal was the goat cheese cheesecake and that was the best part. Totally worth it!! Read more
What a fantastic experience this was! The place was busy Wednesday evening, so I recommend making a reservation. Our party of 4... didn't have a reservation, so we waited about 45 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad, and the bar helped pass the timequickly. Remember that dining here is an experience, so order drinks and appetizers with your dinner, as items take time to comeout. That's not a negative as you won't want to leave this place. Order the Park Rolls, out of this world! Read more
