Went in for dinner with two others, one of whom had very little experience with Japanese food. We decided to order a little bit... of everything to really try this place out and we were not disappointed. I can count the number of times I've had a betterJapanese meal in the States on one hand, and I've sought out some of the best places in NYC, the Bay Area, and Houston. AOI isin the top echelon, IMO. First off, we tried some uni, which was fresh and delicious. We tried the hijiki, kinpira, tsukemon,and mentaiko, all of which were exceptional. The hijiki and mentaiko, in particular, were authentic and tasted just like theydid in Japan. From there, we moved on to agedashi tofu (10/10!!), tori age (6/10), ika geso age (7/10), and ebi wontons (8/10),all of which were executed very well. Finally, we ended with the sashimi platter. I don't normally care for albacore, but thiswas superb! The salmon and tuna were also truly exceptional and melt-in-your mouth! Considering the quality of the meal, I alsofound AOI to be an overall excellent value. It's not cheap, but it's well-priced for Japanese food. We will be back very soon! Read more
Probably the best meal of my life. The black cod with sake pulp was brilliantly cooked and juicy, as was the mackerel. The... eggplant was so well roasted that it tasted slightly caramelized, which paired brilliantly with the rich miso sauce. Thevegetable dishes were wonderful as well, especially the hijiki! We came in from out of town and found this sushi restaurant on an Internet search. This was some of the best sushi I have ever... had! The ginger is over the top amazing. Our server AY LA was extraordinary. We felt very taken care of and she really knowshow to connect with her customers. The atmosphere was amazing, the stuff outstanding and the sushi exquisite. This is good sushi, period! The fish is extremely fresh. I don?t know if they have a cave-cove in the back or what, but it?s the... tastiest fish west of LA. It?s the closest sushi restaurant to our house, so we visited a few times the first year they opened.During the first year of the pandemic, we did takeout. Always delicious and beautiful plates with great service. Sometimeduring the pandemic, the restaurant decided to add a substantial extra charge. It?s understandable to keep the high standard oftheir food and take care of their staff. However, the amount is higher than any other restaurant in town. I honestly would havepreferred to have the food prices go up instead of having an additional cost surprise me on my bill. My boss gave me a giftcard that could have stretched to 2 meals for my husband and I, but it actually only covered one outing due to the extracost. My favorite items to order are the tuna nigiri and the avocado roll. You haven?t had vegan roll like this! The rice isalways perfect and the seaweed is actually chewable. Each time someone new walks in the door, the chefs say hello from thesushi bar. I really like that. :) It?s been a busy time since their opening, so I hope they stay around for years to come. Such great and delicious sushi! A big of an extra service charge for take out but it contributed to compostable packing and the... kitchen staff so it was fine but still a little excessive. We absolutely love this place! Been here twice in the last couple months and it has easily earned a spot in our favorites... rotation! The staff is very friendly and service is fast and efficient. Both times we sat at the sushi bar as I love watchingthem prepare the sushi. I loved all the unique appetizers we ordered, and the sushi was fresh and high quality!
