I've been going to Cate's for 20 years. Have always been excited for my annual LG/BL trip and to visit Cate's for the pizza and... some other menu favorites. This year though, was greatly disappointed. Seems like the pizza recipe was changed, no more thincrust like it has been for as long as I can remember. Did not taste the same, all dough, barely any sauce or cheese. We orderedtwo toppings, one on each half, and we're charged full price for both toppings as if on the whole pizza. Never charged like thatbefore. We ordered the pizza, with a couple salads, to go, takeout. No table, no service, walk in to pick up. There was a 15%gratuity charged automatically, for one pizza and a couple basic side salads. When asked why this was, could it be an error, theanswer was 'that's Bolton'... I've been coming to BL for 21 years, never have I encountered this at Cate's or anywhere else. Idon't know if it's new, or trying to recover from the pandemic, but I won't be back. Would rather save my pennies and eat at afancier place like Beyond the Sea. Read more

Delicious food. Amazing staff. Great atmosphere. I live nearby. Whenever we have visitors we bring them to Cate?s. It?s always... such a nice experience. Also, they have the best pizza ever!!! We crave it all winter while they?re closed. Read more

Positively the rudest bartender I have ever encountered. My family have been dining at Cate?s for many years. Although not my... favorite, others in my party enjoy it. Although the hostess and the waitstaff were excellent, the bartender was discourteous,curt, and unnecessarily rude when I made a simple inquiry after being directed to do so. Her behavior was unprofessional and herattitude soured the entire evening. Dropping $400 on a meal one would expect more respectful treatment from staff. Hostess at the front ( not the younger women they were very nice) was short and not friendly at all. Said the wait could be "... awhile" without being specific and said it would be longer for inside seating. I said okay because we had eaten in Cates yearsago and it was good. We no sooner sit down to wait and she calls her to be seated inside. HUH?? Not complaining but if felt likeshe almost just wanted us to not dine there by discouraging us by saying there was as wait when there was none. Never SMILED. Wego inside to be seated and there was a horrible smell like spoiled fish. We decided not to eat and went across the street toHuddle and had a nice meal. Not sure what is going on at Cates. Okay so completely straight forward, this business lacks customer service?. Food was great, but the service was terrible.. Call... on the phone asking about dessert.. They say to show up and get a table due to no reservations over the phone. Once arrived,there was 9 tables ahead of us. Already terrible communication between staff members.. If there was a wait this long, say itover the phone? Do not make the people simply wanting dessert waiting 1+ hours, or settle for takeout? Now takeout, takeout wasfast, but that?s because they hit you with a 15% charge you don?t even knows coming? The 15% is ridiculous, or maybe it?s justme ???????????. Takeout comes with - Your food, a Chinese plastic takeout bag, and 0 utensils. To be in such a small town; assuch a large restaurant, I expected better.. This place deserves literally nothing. I don?t make a habit of writing back reviews but I feel COMPELLED. This place is living... off of its former accomplishments. The service was terrible, my vodka sauce dish was sweet and tasted like someone who has heardof vodka sauce and is giving it their best shot, but the cheesy garlic bread slapped. If I had been alone in my experience Iwould?ve written nothing, but my entire family hated their meal. Even the two who got salads with chicken hated the chicken. Thebroccoli rabe, was bitter, the chicken Marsala was bland, and the pasta cate if that?s what it?s called was a little sour.There was something to disappoint at EVERY facet of the meal. Never been to Bolton Landing. Decided to stop by for some pizza and it didn?t disappoint. They were THAT close to a 5 star. The... welcoming was absolutely remarkable. It was very exciting this year, to celebrate my Birthday on a Friday, October 29th, during their off season at Cate?s Italian... Garden in Bolton Landing. I have been a customer of Cate?s for years, basically since they first opened up in Bolton, for theirdelicious yummy pizza. Recently, the last 2 or 3 years, my adult son & I have been able to try some of Cate?s meals for ourdinners, never any disappointments, always a wonderful atmosphere, always excellent service, the food is always deliciouslyyummy too. Cate & Buddy Sr, are quite often roaming their restaurant, making sure everyone is well taken care of, treatingeveryone like family or really close friends, some of the most kindhearted people that never want anyone to leave theirrestaurant unhappy. My Birthday dinner was a starter of their homemade tomato soup, then my main course was their ChickenTetrazzini my chicken favorite dish from Cate?s currently. I also was able to enjoy a very much well made margarita for acelebration Birthday drink too.
