It would be easy to assume that a little restaurant, attached to a gas station in the middle of nowhere, would be just another... greasy-spoon slop house enroute. What we discovered, however, is that Halfway Café could be a destination in its ownright. Couple Joe and Danette left their old professions to start a new one ? restaurateurs ? in a most unexpected place. Yetway out between Blairsville and Murphy, their passion for culinary excellence is renown. Joe is the entrée person, whileDanette does the sides. They both share in welcoming everyone who walks in. As two career Navy veterans who have been married &traveling for decades, we?ve been everywhere ? and this was the BEST burger we have ever eaten, bar none! Joe crafts each pattyby hand, with a custom blend of seasonings that he holds as a closely-guarded secret. Danette?s BBQ beans are some of the bestI?ve eaten anywhere, anytime. The Darling Bride, being something of a connoisseur when it comes to Philly Cheesesteaks, saw onecome out of the kitchen for another customer and HAD to get one to go. Before we got to Murphy, half of it was gone ? and shewas in gastric ecstasy! She said it?s the best Philly she?s ever had, hands down, and was very depressed the next day when theother half was finished. Joe and Danette can rest assured that we will not only visit them again, but we?ll tell everyone weknow about the place. Today our hiking group stopped in to Halfway Cafe after a trail clean up. Our experience was fantastic. It all began with... coorespondence on Facebook Messenger. Joe always responded within a few hours. We ordered in advance and when we arrived ourtable was reserved and everything was ready to go. The food was prepared to order and fresh! The service was outstanding andthe facility is super clean. Joe and Danette surely take a lot of pride in their establishment and it shows. If you haven'tstopped in for a quick bite, you need to! We got hamburgers to go for lunch as we worked on our cabin in Ivy Log. The service was friendly, the take out orders correct,... and timely. We had three burger orders and I was thankful they wrote the way the burgers were ordered on the outside of thecontainer so I could just pass them out. The place was clean and appeared to be busy. The only thing I heard from my crowd wasthat the burgers were great but not enough potato wedges in the order. One more would have been perfect. Price was about $9each, which is high for lunch, but not high for the quality of food. We hope this place continues to do well as we plan to goback. Read more
You're greeted by friendly faces with kind words when you walk through the door. The burgers are second to none and you choose... your toppings. A large menu assures that there's something for everyone. Breakfast is 7 AM to 11 AM. Lunch is 11 AM to 2PM. Breakfast was delicious! The best sausage gravy and biscuits my husband's had. The huge cat head biscuits made a greatbacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich that held together and was filling. Very good coffee as well. Read more
