Reviews for Stout's Island Lodge - Island Resort in Wisconsin in Birchwood, WI
This is a magical place. If you go expecting more than the usual comforts of home, you may be disappointed. Your boots may get... dirty; you may have to shoo a few flies away from your dinner plate. But--as they say--when you embark on the ferry, you aretransported back in time, back to a time to savor a cocktail by a real wood fire, to swim in clear lake waters, to spend timecontemplating the stars and the universe. Stout's will do all they can to make your stay comfortable, even luxurious, but it'sup to you to slow down and take it all in. Read more
Fantastic vacation. Stout island was just what our busy lives needed. A peaceful and relaxing getaway in a beautiful part of the... state at the best time of year. Fall colors were at their most colorful, and there was nothing better than sipping wine on yourown private patio overlooking the water. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our visit was enjoyable. Shout out toStephanie for her amazing hospitality! A huge thank you to the wonderful people on staff there. We will be back next October andthe next?..and the next. Read more
This island resort is amazingly peaceful and beautiful. We were ferried out to the island with reservations for lunch. The staff... was very entertaining and helpful showing us around and educating us on the island's history. The kids played bags on thecourtyard. There was a croquet setup which we would like to play next time but since we hiked around the beautiful trails to seethe island, including the fairy garden, we didn't have time. Our food was great and despite being understaffed the serverchatted with us and was delightful. I had the cheesecake which was homemade and the best cheesecake I have ever had. A lavendersyrup was drizzled on it which I think was the special flavor that made it great. We will look at renting a room here for aweekend sometime in the future because it really is exclusive and special leaving you with a peaceful and refreshed feeling. Read more
Very disappointed Mother, my daughter worked there and still has not received 2 checks and her tips. They keep telling her that... the boss is not in when the previously tell her to call a specific day and time to talk to her. They also say they sent thechecks out but they?ll have to void them and resend them. It has been over month now. They owe her a little less than $1000. Sadthat they would take advantage of an 18 year old young lady. They are only showing her and teaching her some very negativelessons in the working field. I did contact the department of labor and helped her file a claim. It?s so sad that a businesswould think that taking advantage of a young girl is okay. Read more
I attended a wedding at Stout's Island Lodge. The wedding was charming and just beautiful. The wedding used the lake as the... backdrop and it was picturesque. The cocktails were strong and tasty. The dinner was pretty good, especially the red potatoesand cauliflower! The tent and the whole dinner set up was nice. The employees were all friendly and accommodating. All of thecabins and grounds were so cute. Riding back on the post-wedding ferry in a full moon while the sun was setting was unexpectedlygorgeous. If I'm ever in the area, I would definitely stay at Stout's Island Lodge! P.S. the swan floaties off the dock made myday! ???? Read more
The island was alright, but not amazing. We stayed for a week in mid June and it felt like the weren't fully open for the... season. Repairs were being made during our stay for things that should've been fixed before season: severely damaged decks/docksthat had to be like that for a long time, large construction by tennis courts, etc. You could tell that this place could beamazing, but it was missing a spark. The rest of the island was more "rustic" than expected. Everything was dirty, covered inwebs and was in disarray. Some equipment was neglected/damaged and laying around. We ended up picking up kayaks/canoes/boardsafter finding them left laying around over a few days. It also felt like there was a larger focus on weddings and events ratherthan people just staying. I understand that you make more money as a venue, but we felt forgotten much of the time. The roomwas overall good, even though we were in an older cabin. Food was great, 10/10, most days, but you could tell a huge differencebetween different chefs. Try the pork belly appetizer if you go (photo: slices of meat with jalapeños on top) The food anddrinks were pricey and service speed was on "island time." Despite reservations for every meal, it was not clear how to "checkin" to our reservation. We just waited at the door until a server found us, sometimes 10-15 min. There was some disconnectbetween what their website said and reality. For example, the menu and site describe that tips are included in the prices, but aserver told us that wasn't the case. Oh, and there is no enforcement of policies on the website, like personal alcohol ordining dress code. TL/DR: Our stay was expensive for what we got, but was okay overall. I would be willing to try staying hereone more time. But if there isn't improvement, it would be my last visit. Read more
My husband and I recently got married at Stout's and couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate our nuptials! We can't... wait to go back for future anniversaries because Stout's Island will always be a very special place to us. Our guests loved thenovelty of the island. It is so beautiful and peaceful. The food is excellent and the service, although they were short staffed, still turned out to be good, especially the night of our wedding. Olivia, our event planner was wonderful to work with. She wassuper responsive and helpful. Highly recommend Stout's Island for future brides! Read more
This venue offers a unique experience for allowing guests an entire island and weekend getaway for their friends and family.... Hands down, some of the core memories the bride and groom and our friends came from this venue and our weekend celebratedhere. The grounds, facilities, and lodging is unique, quaint and cute. The outdoor ceremony space has perfect lake views andgreenery surrounding, and the tent rental was perfect. My rating of a 4 star rather than 5 comes because this wedding was heldsoon after Covid restrictions were lifted (June 2021) and I believe we might have been part of one of the first larger weddings(roughly 150 people). The venue ran out of food and drink, leaving some people without dinner and had to switch from kegs to(warm) bottled beer. Still - I would bet they have adjusted since then and are more adapted to handling larger weddings now.Highly recommend if you're looking for an outdoor, full weekend getaway! Read more
