Missing home, I LOVE to come to the german deli. Most of the items are from home and the cabanossi and curry wurst are so good.... It's worth the trip from Newport Beach to Big Bear just for them. We love the dog friendliness of Big Bear in general and it's ahuge plus fro the Old German deli. Make sure you come after 2.30pm to beat the bustle of lunch time. Wunderbar! No line at the ?poke place? but wanted German cuisine as suggested by good folks in line for ice cream the day... before. Had two sausage plate while my wife had the Beyond sausage. Great. Loved the potato salad, had sausage in it,sauerkraut was hot which was a surprise and a nice Pilsner. The bread was soft and tasty. Definitely a five star meal! I use to come here a lot when the old owners were there. Went again and took my brother. Order was wrong, sandwich was small,... way to MUCH mayo, potato salad lost its tradition, and my brothers Knockwurst was under cook. I gave him my other half ofsandwich. Beers were awesome. First time trying the veal bratwurst and it was so so good. Sour krauts and mustard complements the veal very nicely. Potato... side salad was good as well. Location is a little away from the main street but it was so worth the walk. Two thumbs way up! Read more
Uh, what?!? This place is amazing! I?m not usually big fan of bratwurst, but came here on a last minute lunch decision. Turns... out, they make some fiiiire sausages! I was so pleasantly surprised. Nice selection of sausages, traditional German sides & desserts. Seating areas are a bit limited & worn, so maybe get your meal... to go. Went with the platter, found everything to be quite tasty & a bit more than I could eat in one sitting. Took thebalance (and an apple strudel) back to the room for a late night snack. Read more
This is our first time trying the sausage and the food is delicious! I really meant it. The sausage along with bread and smashed... potato are delightful, fresh made, and absolutely tasty! As for the smashed potato, I'm not a very big fan everytime I had thatthing on my plate but their smashed potato is so delicious. I can't believe I would enjoy them one day. ????
