Reviews for Royal Indian in Bar Harbor, ME
The good : its a decent looking place , probably the only indian joint in this place. Serving staff was nice and cordial. The... Ugly: being an indian and half of my family being typically vegetarian we crave and look for indian food anywhere we go and thusafter reading the reviews ended up here. We orderd Yellow dal / veggie curry / shahi paneer / veggie pakora / chicken pakora and chicken momo. For bread we got 5 garlic naan and 1 tandori roti. The food was very very meh.I cant say i liked anything atall. To start the yellow daal didnt have have tempering which is the reason to 90% of any indian daal taste. The veggie currywas bland and almost undercooked veggies this is mostly a typical americanized food. Momo was dry and pakora the veggie /chicken was weird just like tasteless battered fried stuff. Everything left a bad taste in my mouth. At $164 usd for 4 adultsand 2 children this place left a lot to be desired. If you are not and Asian ( Indian ) you probably will like the food. But ifyou are and indian and craving for indian food this place is not for you. I know i went bit hard on this place but that wasdirectly proportial to the level of disappointment i had. Read more
We had lunch there twice and 4 stars are more for the service each time. Food is good with little higher on the price. Can... recommend the mango lassi here. There?s a parking lot next to it, which makes it the perfect spot for park, eat and then walkaround Bar Harbor. Read more

Don?t get me wrong, the food was delicious and it came out quickly too. We got the Samosa, Onion Bhaji, Saag Paneer, Shahi... Paneer, Dal Tadka, and tandoori naan and roti. As an Indian kid who grew up eating these food, I can tell you it?s authentic.BUT the prices were absurdly high for what you get. Each curry is entree-priced (above $15) but only comes with a small amountof rice and is simply not enough to feed one person. Not to mention, each order of naan and roti only comes with ONE bread. MostIndian restaurants serve at least 4 pieces, and a larger variety of breads. This place was good, but don?t come unless you wantto waste your money. 6 Read more

We got the... vegetable appetizer and also garlic cheese Naan which both had our mouth watering. I ordered chicken Tikka as pictured and myhusband ordered lamb curry. The food came out fast, hot, and fresh. We sat on the patio under the heat lamps and it was reallylovely. The family who owns this place is very friendly and sweet. This is a nice place with good food. Some reviews I felt were bit harsh. Honestly, if you are looking for typical heavy,rich... Indian curries and gravies (that are usually artery clogging) then it's NOT the place for you. If you want Indian food, somewhat homely, that won't clog your arteries while traveling then sure this is the place to go. The food was well cooked inperfect amount of spices and oils. Something that you could eat frequently for the duration of your stay while in Bar Harborespecially being a vegetarian. Service is awesome. Food was awesome too for the perspective that I provided above. Portion sizecould definitely be improved a bit. Tea ( masala chai) was great and so was the Naan. Highly recommend the jackfruit curry.Chicken curry and paneer masala curry was great too. Not too heavy and still tasty like homemade. Chana masala could need someimprovements, doesn't need to be cooked with too much oils but could be made a bit tangy. Overall a great experience, dined here 2 nights for a good vegetarian Indian food. Service is great. Highly recommend for vegetarians. Read more

Really nice staff and great Indian food. Quality and portion sizes were great. Not sure why there are so many bad reviews but as... someone who frequently has Indian food, this definitely hit the spot. I didn?t feel it was overpriced at all. The vegetablecurry and aloo gobi were good. My friends enjoyed the butter chicken and tandoori chicken. Read more
