Wanted to eat something in Bar Harbor that wasn?t just a seafood so we found this place. Honestly, disappointed as it felt as if... they were trying to be inventive but it fell flat for a lot of the meal. Enjoyed the root veggie salad with roasted carrots andbeets, but the southern salad was interesting? with candied pecans and cinnamon sugar on top. I could barely taste thebuttermilk dressing. The flavor of the noodle bowl was - in our opinion - not ?Vietnamese? inspired. It tasted more like sweetand sour sauce than a pho broth. I?d skip this place for your regular bar harbor spot. Well this was a treat! I am gluten and dairy free. My husband is not. We both wanted to the mussels appetizer but I cannot have... the cream sauce. Waitress offered to split the appetizer and make mine dairy free. So nice and it was a win! I ordered theAranchera flank steak for my main course with asparagus and potato salad. It was absolutely the best steak I have ever had. Ineeded no dietary alterations and I just loved it. It has an amazing crust with cilantro and red wine flavor. Thank you! We hadour kids with us and both loved the pizza and chicken fingers. My son rated the chicken fingers a 10/10 - they were homemade,not frozen. Read more
The food tasted good - we got the tofu banh mi and the noodles with tofu. But it was way, way too expensive for the quantity of... food. We couldn?t believe that (see photo) was the amount of noodles given for a $24 dish, and it was weird that we were givenpotato chips with a $16 banh mi - for that price it should at least be a little nicer, like sweet potato fries or salad (theyupcharge $3 for those options). Also, it was extremely hot inside the cafe (& they ran out of outdoor seating - the bocce courttakes up a ton of space outside), and the server literally had beads of sweat running down his face, we felt bad for him. The Cafe was so hot sweat beads were on faces and the staff was complaining of how hot it was. When the food was ready we opted... to take it outside, even though it was in the 90s! Burger was oily all over the bun and the homemade veggie burger patty waslike eating mash potatoes on a bun( soggy sticking to the top of the bun so gross not edible) w 3 slivers of soggy lettuce withthe texture of cooked spinach on the bottom. as you can see in photos. Brought to attention of the 3 girls at counter and wastold that's the way we make it .we are not responsible if you dont like it...So it went straight to the trash can.( afterphotos)..I believe the patty was under cooked and they should have offered to remake or replaced with something edible..Bonus fu was ...When ordering I asked for lettuce and pickles only on my burger and when taking the image for this review I noticedthey charged me $2 extra for that, and labeled it as a side salad...I wasnt interested in giving this company another dime byordering another entree from them after they were not interested in making the first encounter right! A great spot for breakfast with excellent coffee (ask your barista for their special concoctions!), fantastic sandwiches for... lunch, and the secret not-so-busy spot for dinner. They have a beer/wine too! The courtyard seats are a nice respite from thebusy downtown, and the indoor seating with an amazing book collection for purchase is cozy and comfortable. Came in after already having eaten dinner, but this place looked so good I decided to try a dish anyway. The mussels were very... unique! They serve them with a creamy dijon mustard sauce and thin, crispy soughdough bread slices. Would love to pop in anothertime for a full meal. Read more
