We came to the Chanterelle by a recommendation from our host at our accommodation. It was quite a drive but definitely worth it.... We were looking for some real good food after having deep-fried clams and deep-fried everything - a nightmare for foodies likeus. We were welcomed warmly and enjoyed the conversation with Holger. His wife?s culinary skills are top notch so that we cameback for a second evening. The clams with fettuccine and the clams as a starter were exactly how clams should be prepared andthe Strawberry-Rhubarb Fool dessert is to die for. We would 100% recommend this restaurant if you are looking for delicious,high quality food. You won't be disappointed. Read more
We stayed 4 nights at the Chanterelle Inn and we absolutely loved everything about our stay. The staff is welcoming, friendly... and devoted, the rooms are comfortable, nicely decorated and clean, and the food is AMAZING. A special thanks to the chef whocarefully selected some of the best Nova Scotia wines. Beautiful view from the veranda, and the many hummingbirds that areconstantly at the feeders definitely made us smile. What a peaceful place. The family running this works 18 hour days and there are only 3 of them! The staff is literally sacrificing sleep and days off... to make the guests experience wonderful. They use locally sourced foods as much as possible and deserve a day off but theydon't get them and THAT IS DEDICATION! We spent 2 nights here in this cozy retreat overlooking the North River/Tarbot valleyand you will not believe the view until you see it yourself. The food is delicious and the dining area is beautiful over seeingthe rolling hills of the Cape Breton highlands. You may even get to see multiple hummigbirds as you dine! I'm sorry that 5 stars is the highest I could rate my experience! My wife and I felt like members of the family as we were... treated with kindness by owner Earlene and the lovely couple Bettina and Holger. Bettina prepared delicious and high qualitymeals for breakfast and supper. Her culinary skills are top notch. We stayed 5 nights and even though we are not meat eaters wenever had the same supper twice. Our meals were always finished with satisfying homemade desserts. We enjoyed Holger's wittycharm, graciousness, and interesting conversation. As advertised we were entertained by hummingbirds who fed outside the diningarea. Our cottage accommodations met our needs as the bed was comfortable and when hot water was needed for showers it took notime to arrive. We wanted to whalewatch and play golf and Earlene made our reservations. This was a perk we greatlyappreciated. When we return to the area Chantrelle Inn and Cottages will be the place we stay! We were staying at a nearby resort the week after Thanksgiving when most restaurants were closing down the the season.... Fortunately we found the Chanterelle, called and spoke to Holger who graciously offered to serve us on a short noticereservation. We so enjoyed our first dinner that we returned the next night! Kudos to the chef (Holger's wife) who prepared notonly delicious food but also so nicely presented. The main courses were only surpassed by the fabulous desserts, who knew youcould make a cake out of potatoes. Delicious ???? Holger's service was excellent, with wit, charm and great stories about thearea and their journey to this piece of paradise. We plan to return and highly recommend! Read more
