This is one of our favorite restaurants in Avila. Love the atmosphere and the food. I would normally give them 5 stars but last... night the waitstaff was struggling. They were clearly short staffed with at least one waitress still learning the ropes. Once wegot the attention of a waitress though, all was fabulous. The waitress we got was knowledgeable and very nice. She and the chefwent out of their way to accommodate my allergies. The chef ended up making a salmon dish for us that wasn?t on the menu. Itwas amazing! Looking forward to coming back soon. Read more

The location is beautiful, we sat at the bar, we were immediately were Greeted & served. The food Is delicious & very generous... portions. We took Chefs advise, oysters so fresh & yummy. Shucked right in front of us. Pork belly appetizer was so tender &delicious. On the second night? the salmon was perfect & Plenty, the Rib eye so tender, flavourful & literally melts in yourmouth. Great staff, they all ( there?s a lot) flow together so we?ll making the environment so fun & friendly. Can?t wait toreturn here Our next visit to the Central Coast. Read more

The view is the best part of the experience. Do not go if you want to have good service or want to have a timely dinner. Our... glasses were empty the entire dinner, tables were served their dinner that were sat 30 minutes after us. We did not get ourclam chowder until after dinner was served. And the food wasn?t worth half the price we paid. Go to the Custom House if youwant great food and great service. This experience was not pleasant and not good food. We sat for an hour and 40 minutes withoutgetting food Read more

Upscale prices without the experience. Clam chowder all came out room temperature and most the entrees were bland at best. Which... is fine if your prices reflect the cuisine. The table did enjoy the pork belly and artichoke heart appetizers. But getting adrink was sometimes tough. It was a Friday night, but any restaurant should expect to be busy. And this place wasn't overly busyby 7-7:30. Read more

Most restaurants are booked months in advance for Mother?s Day - we had not planned anything. The hostess was most accommodating... and seated us immediately. The menu was fixed and had many choices. The caprese salad was delicious. My friends chose thehalibut it was a very generous portion. My entree was a veggie frittata a little too well done for my taste yet very tasty. Iwould return on a regular say to check out the normal menu. Read more

Ocean Grill...Ocean Gross. My husband and I stayed at the Inn at the Avila, they recommended this restaurant as they were... offering a 10% discount to hotel guests. So we went, put our names down for a 1 hr wait, as the kitchen was swamped. So wewaited, got sat. I ordered the ceasar salad and the four cheese ravioli. My husband order the pepperoni pizza. We were servedbread and oil while we waited. The oil and vinegar was served with minced shallots...I've never seen this before, but the lastthing I want to dip my bread in is onion. And the bread was a little moist, probably given to our proximity to the water, sothis I can't really hold against them. But I can say that the restaurant should take more steps in filtering their tap water. Itwas bad tasting tap. My zero filter does a better job on my tap and I live in the central valley. The food arrives and Istumped. I have never been served a char-broiled split romain lettuce before, and let me tell you...there's a reasonwhy...putting lettuce on heat wilts it...so no, this is no good. Plus it was hard to cut into. I was wanting a refreshing salad, and so, I actually had to send this one back. My husband's pizza had about 75-100 slices of pepperoni on the pizza and left itbeyond greasy to where my husband could only eat one slice, took the rest home just to throw it away...we should have sent thisback too. And finally, my gluten-free cheese ravioli: 6 medium ravioli pieces, covered in a white sauce, and filled withmushrooms and tomatoes. For the price, you can tell these were not homemade and should have been....I should have senteverything back and left. But we didn't, we paid our $45 tab, no discount, and left. Although we didn't order any seafooditems, I can only assume their seafood is lackluster, as most people know, perfecting land and sea is far more difficult thannailing salad and pizza. Therefore, if you want a long wait, burnt salad, and to burn your money, dine here. Side note, alittle birdie Read more

Seasoning and flavors are bit weird, especially for an oceanside seafood restaurant. Everything is too strong on acidity and... sweetness, lacking a bit of saltiness, which is so weird for seafood because they are naturally salty. Texture of the food isgood though, crispy and tenderness feel right Read more
