?Stopped by Verde?s for dinner this past Saturday. We decided to dine at the bar, as the STL Cardinals game was just starting... on the TV behind the bar!!! Met Brandon working behind the bar, who turned out to be one of the owners, and originally from myhome state of MO, and also a HUGE Cardinals fan! His Cardinals baseball cap was a giveaway! LOL It felt like it was going tobe a good night? and it was! We started with complimentary chips and salsa, which was delicious?: super crispy ?corn tortilla?chips, lightly salted, and a very fresh, salsa with just the right amount of heat. We ordered a couple of appetizers, theceviche and the calabaza cakes. The ceviche was super fresh, and the fried flour tortilla chips served alongside made a goodpairing. The liquid wasabi ?drizzled beneath the chips was a bit of a surprise, but?, alongside the mango drizzle, it was good. The calabaza cakes are spaghetti squash and stewed chicken atop a poblano cream sauce. A tasty and delicious combination, andthe cream sauce was sublime! For entrees, we enjoyed ?t?he fish tacos and shrimp ??moho dishes. The ingredients in both disheswere super fresh, freshly prepared, and seasonings were on point. Simply put, both entrées were outstanding! We tried severalmargaritas during? ?our meal, and we would have to say that the Skinny Holly was our favorite. We were too full to even thinkabout dessert, so we will have to save that for next time. Ending the evening on an incredibly high note, Brandon allowed us totake an empty bottle of one of our favorite tequilas served at the restaurant, Clase Azul Reposado. Excellent tequila, in ahand-painted pottery bottle. I can also vouch for the Verde?s grilling seasoning sold at the bar. ? I used it the followingnight at home, and it is outstanding?? Great food and margaritas and lovely a outdoor patio. However, the service is not the best. No one was pleased to serve us or... attentive whatsoever, and this is my second time with two different people. Willing to give it one more shot though. My wife and I stopped by here recently not knowing what to expect other than being aware that it is a Mexican style restaurant.... The parking is ample. The interior is spacious, clean, and moderately decorated. Our server came right away with chips, salsa,and water. We both ordered frozen Margaritas and upon his deliverying we placed our orders. I had the Ranchero Beef Enchiladaswith refried beans and Mexican rice. My wife had the Chile a la Parrilla. The salsa with chips was very tasty. The salsa had afresh taste with chunky tomato consistency. We liked it very much. We did not care for the Margaritas as we found them to bebitter and not sweet. We each had a couple of sips and then no more. My wife enjoyed the Chile a la Parrilla which is stuffedwith mushrooms, cheese, and topped with ranchero sauce, queso, cilantro, and creme fresh. The black beans seemed a little toothick. The white rice was just typical white rice. My Ranchero Beef Enchiladas were a large serving. The shredded beef was tastybut I did not care for the Ranchero sauce which was thin consistency and rather tasteless. The refried beans were bland. In myopinion they needed a little salt and garlic which would have enhanced the flavor. The Mexican rice was fine. To summarize, Ifound this restaurant to lean heavily into northern Mexico cuisine (either red or green chile topping with crema and quesofresco) whereas TexMex uses ground beef, chili con carne, and toppings using yellow cheddar cheese. The menu does not includethe typical TexMex dishes such as enchilada plates, tamales, and tacos. Verdes Parrilla is more upscale with offerings such asquail, bacon wrapped shrimp, roasted brussel sprouts, ceviche, etc. The different offerings might appeal to those patrons whodesire entrees other than the standard Mexican restaurant offerings. I personally prefer the standard Mexican fare but "to eachhis own". Read more
