Reviews for Emmer & Rye in Austin, TX
This place was fantastic. The food was great and the service was impeccable. Their drinks were pretty good too. I didn't take a... ton of pics, but I will add that the desserts were perfection. The chocolate powered chips plate was unexpected and surprisinglygreat. It doesn't look that appealing in the pic, but your taste buds will be pleasantly rewarded by ordering it. Read more
We visited E&R for the first time since the pandemic. I love the restaurant and the service was excellent but I was a little... disappointed in the food. The dishes were made mainly using locally sourced ingredients and tasty but the menu was, I thought,a bit limited. Portions were very small and the price very high - but everything is costing a lot more these days. We had theshrimp ceviche, wheat berries, butternut squash, chicken thigh, pork belly and the Iron Ox green salad. All good but none ofthem exceptional, although the presentation was excellent. Despite the fact that I didn’t enjoy Emmer, I can understand the draw here for sure. It’s farm to table, unique dishes... served by a knowledgeable staff with a great wine menu. We got the tasting menu and the wine pairing to get a holistic sense ofthe offerings. There were the usual small portions, but the flavor was really lacking for me. We had oysters, liver moussecannolis and quail deviled eggs to start. Each of those was fine. For me, they perfectly exemplify the issue I had with themeal: when you do these smaller dishes, the flavors need to pack a great punch and have a great balance of acid and fat.Everything was very one noted for me. The star of the night was definitely the pasta dish I have pictured here. If I were toreturn I would order that as a main course. A particular disappointment was the wagyu steak, which tasted as if it hadn’t beensalted or prepared in any way (maybe a strategic choice, but one that missed for me). The sides often had a bitter aftertaste. You’ll also see a picture of a cube of honey melon with a dollop of blueberry that was served as a dessert course. Atthe end of the day, the tasting menu rotates. We could have sampled a particular bad night or just have a completely differentpalette than the staff. Because we had the experience, it’s not somewhere I would recommend people spend their specialoccasion money. If you’re looking for the experience of trying new foods, go ahead and book Emmer & Rye. If you’re lookingfor a consistently delicious stop, I’d steer away from the tasting menu especially. Read more
My husband and I went for a special birthday dinner, and E&R did not disappoint. We both had the tasting menu, which was... incredible; I opted for the wine pairings, and my non-drinking husband had a couple different non-alcohol interesting drinksthat were offered. Our sommelier was amazing, I loved the wine selections. Every course was a delight - I've put in a few photos- some we ate so quickly that a photo wasn't possible! The entire staff is attentive, knowledgeable and seem to take great pridein what they present. Our every need was seen to, and we felt very special on a special occasion. Bravo! Read more
Just discovered this restaurant right on Rainey street. The food is amazing! We particularly loved Cacio e pepe but really... everything was delicious and at high level of presentation. The dishes looked very appetizing and beautiful. The staff is alsovery nice and professional. We are definitely coming back! P.S. That watermelon lime sorbet was 10/10 !!! Read more
Great Vibe! Great Service! I loved the food and concept. I think the pasta was my favorite dish. Then the bayleaf cake... dessert. Spouse loved his pork dish. I didn't like the entree much. The drinks were delish. Read more
We had pretty high expectations of this restaurant, as their history and reputation is an Austin staple. This was our first... visit and would say it was about average overall. The food was seasonal and fresh, but was lacking that wow factor inflavor. I hope to return and try their seasonal line-up again. Read more
Ambiance is dark and nice- a little loud. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful with the menu. The dishes are very pretty-... high quality food with unique flavors. I really wished I liked the food more but the flavor combinations were just a bit toodifferent for me with the fish and mushroom dishes that we got. I’ll probably be back to order different items next time—the sweet potato plate was our favorite. Read more
