Reviews for Bikkle Jamaican Restaurant in Austin, TX
Been to Bikkle a few times and I must say I'm just consistently disappointed. Whenever I order a dinner this is pretty much what... I get. Those black things on right side are plantains with minimal stew chicken and a while lot of rice. I love spicy food, however there is such a thing as to much spice. Its overpowering and just takes away from the dish. I will just stick to thesides the curry potatoes are always good. Otherwise not sure I will order much else from here. Read more
I got a mixed plate with oxtail and jerk chicken, loved both! There is almost no wait time because the food is basically ready... already. Id recommend calling ahead if you want something particular, because sometimes they're out and it takes them like 2 hto cook a new batch. Read more
One of the most authentic Jamaican place I've had. I got the jerk chicken with rice. Everything we so flavorful! The jerk... chicken was so tender. Definitely would recommend! Read more
I had the oxtail. I?d never had oxtail before, so it was interesting. The sauce on the oxtail was tasty. The cabbage was sweet,... which I didnt like. Overall it was okay but I won?t get it again, especially considering it was $22. Much better meals nearby atAster?s or wherever. The indoor decor was pretty barren tbh. No photos or anything. I wouldnt bring a date here. Read more
Came to visit for something different after school. Bikkle has a great selection of menu items to appeal to a less adventurous... eater (like stew, curry, or jerk chicken) as well as more interesting choices, like ackee and saltfish, curry goat, andoxtails. We had the curry chicken and the jerk chicken. The plate included plantains, potato salad, and a very generous helpingof rice and peas. The food was flavorful and delicious. The meat is not off the bone so it was a bit difficult to eat, but thetaste definitely made up for it. We also had a spicy beef patty, which both of us thoroughly enjoyed. The prices were veryreasonable, only $35 for the amount of food shown below. Service was friendly and quick, and staff was patient with answeringquestions about menu items. We will definitely be back! Read more
I?m from Jamaica from Spanish Town and I wouldn?t call this Jamaican food Bought curry chicken and rice and peas Brown stew... chicken and festival and beef Pattie?s and none of these dishes taste authentic . The food isn?t terrible but you can tell theyaren?t using the right spices for the flavor. They got the color on the curry but doesn?t taste like curry and it?s almost sweetfor some reason Same thing with the brown stew chicken ?doesn?t have the right flavor or spices. The festivals don?t even lookright but i have it a try and immediately spit it out. That has more of a dried cinnamon roll flavor ? which festivalsshouldn?t. honestly all the food is kind of sweet not sure why. Like i said, wasn?t bad? It?s probably tough to find the rightspices to buy here in Austin anyways but Probably wouldn?t order from here again if I?m looking for authentic Jamaican foodbecause this is absolutely not it Read more
This place serves delicious Jamaican food - with all the spices and flavors you would expect. Portions were perfect for a single... meal. As far as price, seems comparable to other places in the niche. There isn?t a soft drink stand, which would be nice. Jerkchicken wasn?t too spicy, and the goat had plenty of spice for those who enjoy spicy things that don?t overwhelm the flavor. Thecabbage was more of an earthy flavor, which was surprisingly good. Food was quickly made (within 4 four minutes of order). Iwould definitely return. Read more
I?m grateful for Bikkle. I come from New York City, where there is an abundance of Jamaican restaurants, so my standards are... pretty high but Bikkle satisfied my cravings the one time I went. I got the curry goat (bottom image) and my acquaintance gotthe oxtail (top image) both regular sized plates (altho he wished he got a large after). Pros: - The rice and peas are myfavorite, because it tasted the most familiar. - My friend says the beef patties are good. Cons: - My other friend says shethinks they use too much black pepper in their food and - their coco bread tastes more like a hard biscuit lol. - I did not getenough goat meat?it was mostly bone and large pieces of ginger in my plate?and - we both only got two pieces of plantain. - Andit?s more of a take out place. Not very cute to sit down in, unless you don?t care or are with a large group. The oxtail was abit sweet, which I?m not used to, so take that how you will. Read more
