What a cool place. It's so unexpected to find a German diner in Aurora and I'm glad it's here. Sometimes they have live music... which makes the experience even livelier. Their beer flights taste pretty good, and you can get more value out of it with theirGroupon. Their finger foods are also fun. I'll make sure to try their entrees next time. Read more

What a fantastic German food experience. We both got pork schnitzel with different sauces: mushroom cream on one, wine on the... other. Everything was fresh, tasty, and portioned to make sure you will not walk out of there hungry. The soft pretzel wasdelicious as well, and came with an amazing mustard... We bought a bottle of it to take home. Excellent service on top of allthat. Cheerful, relaxed, and knew the menu inside out. The restaurant decor was also charming and cozy, with the owner's fishingmemorabilia and some cool cuckoo clocks. Wholeheartedly recommend this place! Read more

My family has been eating at this restaurant since it was located off of 6th Ave. We enjoy the traditional German food. We... almost always order the variations of the Schnitzel. We've always been impressed with the service and the food. This locationis one of the rare locations that will serve traditional veal Schnitzel. I cook pork Schnitzel for my family, so my childrenmight be used to my version and less so Helga's. I did find the meat cuts to be tough and the breading a bit overdone. Onetreat for the children is Maltz Bier in bottles. If you want your children taste a non-alcoholic "bier", this is anopportunity. Our last visit was not quite up to par. I didn't feel the staff was helpful. Wait staff did not have accurateorders and did not serve us the requested three orders of potato cakes for appetizers. I did not complain since we were fullafter our meal, but disappointing since I was looking forward to potato pancakes. There was live entertainment with anaccordion (last weekend of the month). This helps with the traditional atmosphere if you are looking for this. There arepicnic tables in the bar area for group/family gatherings. There are regular dining tables in the dining area. Be aware they donot take reservations the last Friday and Saturday of the month which is first come first serve for live music night. Inaddition to the restaurant, there is a German deli/store with imported products. Get your Thomy mustard here! The restaurantis a stand alone building near the Aurora Mall. It has easy parking and easy access. Overall Helga's is a great place forGerman food. I wish the service would be better and perhaps the food a bit better quality. Read more

I enjoy German food, but it has to be authentic. And this place is! The last Friday/Saturday night they have live music and... dancing. The original cocktail I tried has their signature apfelkorn (apple liquor). Seriously?! It tasted like cinnamon applecider. It was so delicious, but dangerous because it could easily drop you to the floor. The menu is their own recipes broughtfrom Germany. Steins are for sale as well. Great selection of German beers (bier). If you like beer and don't want a hangover,German beer is the way to go. The food is amazing! If I didn't live so far, I would be here more often. Check it out! You willnot be disappointed. Read more

Lunch take-out, first visit. Ordered: Bratwurst Sampler Jaeger Schnitzel Bread Schnitzel a slice of German Choc cake Apple... Strudel Schnitzels were delicious and each order comes with 2 sides. Our 4 sides were the Squash, Rice & 2 of theKroketten. Loved the squash! The Brat sampler is also a winner. Am thinking of this being great with beer for dine in nexttime. The cake and Strudel was good, not great. Coffee, okay, could have been stronger! Thus, the 4-? rating. Parking won'tbe a problem. Ambiance/decor is TRULY rustic. They also have an area for various German items, both edibles andnon-edibles. Service is great, very welcoming, polite & friendly. This is a 1st try but definitely won't be the last. Read more
