I was visiting from out of state and Cafe 209 was highly recommended?. It was my first time at Cafe 209, and I certainly look... forward to returning whenever I?m in the area ????. I have supported this business from their beginning, and have watched the quality of food go down hill. Yesterday, I ordered the... hamburger steak and gravy with corn, collards, and corn muffin. I got the hamburger steak with NO gravy, and extra onions. (Iasked specifically for no onions.) I will take the blame for not checking the plate before leaving, but I can not take theblame for the way the food was cooked. The hamburger steak was thick, but was red in the middle, and wasn't cooked all the waythrough. It tasted like someone poured salt on top of it, as did the corn and collard greens. Both sides were overly salty, andI ended up throwing the plate in the trash. The peach cobbler was just peaches----no crust----and was more of a fruit cup than acobbler. The best thing about the meal was the lemonade and tea that I had to drink to get the salty taste out of my mouth. Iam not sure what happened to this establishment, but the love and care for food that once was a staple in Cafe 209 has longgone. I will not spend another dime here because the last 3 experiences have not been good, and I don't trust the food to be astasty as it once was. Cafe 209 USED to be the standard...a community staple. My entree (hamburger steak) was mediocre at best. The mashed potatoes... definitely tasted fresh from the box. My field peas and cornbread were enjoyable. The yams were awesomeness but not enough towarrant the wait. I placed my order on Doordash and still waited almost 1 hrs after I arrived. When I finally got my food theorder was accurate on the receipt but incorrect in the box. By the time I got home NO WAY was I going back to wait again. I'lltry again in a few months. My coworkers took me here last year and I'm so glad they did. Cafe 209 has become my favorite place for southern good. I'm... normally indifferent about fried chicken but i LOVE theirs, perfect crisp with juicy chicken. Its not a super quick stop as thefood is made fresh (so worth it). Everyone I've met there has been great and treats you like an old friend. Desserts aredelicious. Food is reasonably priced. Just wish they were open for dinner or weekends so I could go more! I had a great lunch. I got the country fried steak with broccoli casserole and cornbread stuffing. My girlfriend got the fried... chicken with lima beans and fried okra. The food was great and we had an all around good experience. Read more
As long as I've lived in Augusta, WHYYY HAVE I NEVER BEEN HERE?!?! My husband and I had a business meeting downtown that ran... long so we were going to grab fast food but we drove by Cafe 209 and stopped there instead. So glad we did! The pork chop wasseasoned nicely... the greens... the mac and cheese... everything was good. Definitely gonna be a regular! Read more
