Taste of the food is great. Location and the view is great. The service is great. Where it suffers is the outdoor dining. The... ceiling fans have about a half inch thick of dust on them. The metal fan on the wall is rusted all the way through. The shadecurtains are badly weathered, torn, durty and need replacing. The outdoor floor is badly warn and needs to be painted. Theshrimp basket was hardy, full, perfectly fried and good. No tartar sauce though. The oyster PoBoy was tasty but lacking theproper amount of oysters to give it a good oyster taste. Read more

The Mayport Safe Harbor has gone down hill, a lot. As other reviewers have noted, weekend lunch expect a 45-60min line wait,... and another 20-40min for your food. Incredibly slow staff, who look disconnected. Food quality went from good to below average.In all we waited nearly 3hours for two baskets; Scallop & Softshell crab $22 *burnt! As goes the seafood market goes Safe Harbor Seafood restaurant. Fresh catch of the day. Grouper, snapper, flounder, mahi and... redfish. Cooked anyway you like fried, blackened, grilled and if you ask pan fried. Shrimp, softshell crab, oysters all cookedto perfection. I will admit that on this visit I got blackened grouper, fried oysters and blackened shrimp. For the very firsttime my fish was over cooked and I took it up explained what was wrong my grouper was replaced with a perfectly cooked piece. Went during lunch time a bit of a crowd but things went fast. Parking on the side more than enough. Staff was friendly food... was hot. Menus could be easy read. Baskets are best bet. Fish is fresh. Gumbo was not bad but not as good as mine. Military discount all day long here. Plastic plates and forks nothing fancy. Can sit off the river . This was an initial visit to the Safe Harbor Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant is very popular. It is informal and a no-frills... type of place. The emphasis of the restaurant, and the reason it is so popular, is the fresh seafood. Parking can be tricky butthere is plenty of room to park, if necessary, at the seafood store across the street. There is parking at the restaurant but,at busy times, it may be full so across-the-street parking will be the best options during these times. We arrived at theheight of lunch hour on a Saturday?and parked across the street. Ordering food is done by placing an order at a counter and itis then delivered to a table with a number system. A customer receives a number when the order is placed, sets it up on thetable, and a server brings it to the table when the order is ready. It is a good way to feed a lot of people efficiently. Itmay be more efficient to just have a buffet but this is a step above that approach. We waited in line about 25 minutes or so toplace an order. There was a long line and one person taking the orders. I ordered the triggerfish fresh catch. That fish wassold out so opted for the snapper instead. The dish was accompanied with french fries, hushpuppies and slaw. Other side dishesare available for an additional price. Another person in our party ordered fried clams. This dish came with the samesides. Wine and beer are available along with water, iced tea or soft drinks. I ordered a pinot grigio wine. That is probablynot a good idea. It comes in a can, was $10 and not the best option. The other drink options are probably a wiser choice and, asa practical matter, this is not a setting for a good glass of wine in a relaxing atmosphere anyway?but there are several wineoptions available in cans in a refrigerator near the soft drinks. I got the pick 2 basket with catch of the day and shrimp, the boyfriend got the basket with oyster strips and chicken strips.... And we got a shrimp nachos to share. So much delicious food!!! The fish was perfectly cooked and moist but also crunchy. Thebreading was tasty and stuck well to the fillets. I will go there again when I am back. Read more
