We had an early dinner for a small group after our wedding. To be honest our experience started off pretty rough as several... items discussed with management in the days leading up to dinner were not properly done. I.E. The atmosphere was nice and staff was friendly, but the food was bland, something nearly impossible for italian. Not a hint of... garlic and the chicken was overcooked on all of our plates. Also for the high price there was no bread served and half of asalad cost an extra $7. Read more
I loved this place. I dined alone so I ate at the bar. It was moderate sized uncrowded and well appointed. The young bartender... Conner made a cocktail beyond his apparent years and I had a Brooklyn style Italian dinner that would have been appreciated bymost of my dyed in the wool italian relatives ????. Great job! DePalmas was a favorite when I was in college. I try to eat here when I'm visiting in town. Tonight did not disappoint. We... brought our whole family. They easily accommodated our large party with same day reservation. The breadsticks are still theBEST. We had a large group in town for a conference. We booked a table well ahead of the date to make sure we could be seated... together. We arrived and were immediately seated. Water was served right away and appetizer/bread/drink orders went in quickly.The service was great, and as always, the food was fantastic. This was the second time my husband and I tried DePalmas. First time at this location. Not coming back. For the price, the... portions and food quality is ridiculous. The only reason for 2 stars instead of one is bc my chicken was actually pretty good -the noodles, not so much (I got the chicken parm with spicy sauce). The noodles were cold and the sauce had almost no flavor. Ihad to add salt for it to taste decent and the sauce was also way too spicy to enjoy (I love spicy food, but the spice in thesauce was overpowering for the meal). I initially wanted the pasta dinner since it came with a side salad, but, to simply addchicken (or any protein) cost $7+ which would make it even more expensive than the seafood dishes! Ridiculous! So I opted forthe chicken parm. The service was just ok. The restaurant was nearly empty, but we still waited about 10 min before beingseated and no one really acknowledged us. De Palma's has two locations, one of the West Side of Athens and another on Broad Street in Downtown. We have mostly patronized... the West side branch because it is close to home but the menus are the same and the quality of the food and service aregenerally equal. This is good solid Italian fare with some rather inventive dishes added - the fried cheese ravioli withartichokes is a favorite of mine. Their pizzas are really good too. They have a good wine selection and reasonably priced. Theservice is always friendly and professional. Read more
