Our experience did not start out well. After we sat down, it was at least 20 minutes before a waitress came to the table to ask... our drink orders, we ordered the appetizer and main course at the same time. Thirty five minutes after we sat down, a table alsoof four, was sat next to us. We received our appetizer before we got our drink order and had to ask a passing waitress forwater, our waitress was no where around. Several minutes later, our waitress brought our drink order. We waited an hour for ourfood to be delivered to our table, while the people that came 35 minutes after us was served their food and we were stillwaiting on ours. The waitress claims that they were busy however, the food that was delivered to the table behind us was some ofwhich we ordered ourselves. People at our table, ordered grouper, which was a fishy tasting fish, not grouper, more like perch.We eat grouper constantly, and know the difference between a freshwater fish and a saltwater fish. Needless to say we were verydisappointed, it was our first time to Hickory Tavern and we drove over an hour to get there. Read more

Met a friend there for dinner last week. Hickory Tavern is a large sports bar themed restaurant. The food is basic bar food. It... has a rustic sort of ambience, but is covered with TV screens. Every seat in the house faces at least one screen. I thought itwould be very noisy when crowded, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that even when full, I could hear my friend acrossthe table without difficulty. The sandwiches and appetizers were good, about what one would expect in the way of bar food.Service was friendly and quick. A nice place to meet your friends. Read more

Really enjoyed the Berry Fuego cocktail (silver tequila, lime juice, blackberry, soda, and ginger beer w/jalapeño). Our party... also liked the fried shrimp po'boy, and two of us split a fried grouper sandwich and got the gouda mac & cheese and friedBrussel sprouts. Service was good too. Read more

Used too love this place, I remember visiting a lot when I was younger. But went in with my fiancée for the first time in... years, the wait staff was okay I?ll give them that until we were just completely forgotten after our food arrived. But the foodwas the issue. Never was I really one to complain but the food was cold and tasted almost microwaved. I will say at the end theydid give us a discount to compensate for the issue, however if your looking for a nice day out? not recommended to come here. Read more

AC broken (seems consistent with other reviews), food was fair at best, and service was extremely slow. At least the beer was... consistent and at a fair price. A much-needed facelift, renovation, update/upgrade to this place would make it a desirable barand restaurant. They have so much space, a ton of TVs, and so many empty seats. A shame. This place has the potential to be asolid sports bar for big events. Read more

Not much good can be said about this. Our service was good, but the food, not so much. For an appetizer, pretzel bites were... buttery and fresh but overloaded with salt - even for a pretzel. I went the route of ?fresh? oysters, both raw and baked. Thebaked oysters couldn?t have been bigger than a nickel - and the raw half shells were shucked so poorly that I had to eat withcaution due to shell remnants. My wife had a burger that was very middle-of-the-road at best, but cooked to temp and veryjuicy. I wouldn?t go hungry if it were available, but in comparison to other restaurants in the park (I?ve had them all) thisone simply isn?t on the same field. Read more

Yeah, no. Lots of people love the place. I used to go often in my neighborhood back in Charlotte. This one just didn't have the... same feel to it. Staff was fun for the most part. The food, well I had to return the Cuban sandwich, maybe I am not the Cubantype. The Swiss and mushroom burger nothing to brag about. I don't know, maybe it's me but I won't try it again. Great bartenders. Good food. But for the third summer in a row, the AC isn?t working and we?re getting the same excuses. I... don?t understand how any self respecting human being can expect their staff or customers to put up with sitting in 80+ degreetemperatures inside, and I can?t imagine what the kitchen staff is dealing with. Either spend the money to fix it, or reassessif your business should be open. Yes, first world problem. I?m aware. Read more
