The vegetarian udon soup was as disappointing as can be. The broth was a nice opaque flavorless miso. The veggies were colorful... and bland. The udon noodles looked and tasted nothing like Japanese udon. Never again. Read more
In general, food is just not good in Arcata. I don't understand it. I've been to a lot of smaller towns and everything is... amazing. But Humbolt has been really disappointing. At the top of that depressing mountain, is Japhy's. Paid over $30 for 2soups that were bland and flavorless. The consistency and texture were off too. Just really bad food. I really wanted to like itbut for what it was, and the price, I'm pretty bummed. Read more

Well holy moly me oh my, this place is DELICIOUS. I got the hot soup, with ramen noodles, miso, the baked pork (SO FLAVORFUL)... and veggies, and I?m not ashamed to say it, but I did not take a single breath in between bites. This ramen was SO GOOD, I?dcome all the way from Phoenix Arizona to cali JUST for this ramen. The people were nice, the restaurant is very clean and welldecorated. I enjoyed my stay so so much. I got the green curry as well (for a late night feast) and if the quality is anythinglike the noodles, I?m ready to fall in love with this Curry as well. Read more
Great food and nice service! I was having a weird day the other night and went in with a friend super close to closing time. I... wasn't happy with the amount of Age tofu on my cold noodle plate so the chef person gave me more. Next time I would order extratofu but the cold noodle salad plate was awesome and the people were all very helpful and friendly! ???? We were in town for 3 days and went here twice. So many options on the menu I asked the person at the register to suggest... something. He said he ate the Thai Style Chicken for the first 2 years he worked there... SOLD! Over brown rice - one of thetastiest things I've ever eaten. My son said the same thing. The next day I asked a different server to just order something forme - so many choices that sound good - I got hot noodles with pork and my wife had the same with tofu. Both very good. The is a hidden gem of a restaurant with outstanding hardy soups in oversized bowls. Large menu with mix and match options made... fresh to order. Quick service. They have odd hours, often closed when I want to dine there, so it's extra special when I can. Read more
