This is becoming one of our favorite spots for Mexican in Ankeny. The food is good, very typical Midwest Mexican restaurant... food. The wait staff have all been friendly and very attentive. I don't know if we've just been lucky but the speed of thekitchen has been incredible. Actually too fast, honestly. We barely get halfway through the chips and the food is already at ourtable. We eat here about twice a week. Every time our order is incorrect. It is obviously really hard for them to make a simple steak... and cheese taco. The food is good, but don't expect them to get your order correct. It sucks because we usually leave a $10-$20tip, to get home and discover our food is not the way we ordered it. The food was so good and big portions. Definitely worth it for the price. We?re very picky when it comes to Mexican food and... this hit the spot for us. My son got the fajita trio - steak, chicken, and shrimp and when he was done eating he had so muchleftover (the picture was taken after he was done and picked out the peppers). I wasn't expecting such a great experience. The restaurant was pretty crowded, but the service was very quick and accurate. My... wife was not a fan of the top shelf margarita, since it was different that what she's used to. I ordered the four enchiladaplate. The price was very reasonable, and almost too much to finish. Our 10U little league Baseball team traveled from Kansas City for a tournament this past weekend & we called maybe 12... restaurants.... Hidalgo was the only one that would even entertain the idea of providing service for a party of 40+. I'm SO gladthey did because not only was their service fast and friendly but their food & margaritas were amazing! I cannot recommend thisplace enough! Solid Mexican restaurant. We got the chicken chimichanga and a chicken taco. They both had lots of chicken and vegetables... stuffed in them. Large side portions as well for the lunch menu. They also brought us a couple bags of chips and salsa. Read more

I'm going to give Hildago a 5 star rating, although I wish their queso was a bit more spicy (I thought it a bit on the mild... side.) The chips are AWESOME. And the salsa is just right.
