The atmosphere is pretty great and the option for a patio and event space is really nice. The fried pickles were like fries, but... the batter the day we tried them was far too salty. The salad tasted good, but being served on a 1/4 sheet pan made mixing ittogether very difficult, so several bits escaped onto the table. For 2 adults, we ordered an appetizer, 2 salads, and each had 2beers and our bill was $80 before tip. Our server was great and the space looks wonderful. Read more

Was looking for a place to unwind after a long day of work and a friend recommended Sweet Caroline's. This place was... surprisingly far more progressive than one would expect in conservative Iowa. Loved the atmosphere the service, and of coursethe food/drinks. Emphasis on the drinks BTW. Please don't sleep on this full bar guys. I asked the bartenders to recommend adrink specifically for my review and thier Mulberry mule did not disappoint. The establishment is quite spacious with plenty ofseating options to include a outside patio area. There is even a private room that can be reserved for events that looks to beable to hold several people at once. If you are looking for a place to relax, eat and be sociable this is your place. I will bereturning. Read more

First visit to Sweet Caroline's. I went on Thurday night, not to busy. Just about the right rate of busyness. I had the cheese... curds as an appetizer, they were okay, a little on smaller side. Portion size was fine. I tried the Large (White Pieces)Chicken, the chicken tasted good, and was kind of crunchy. It wasn't greasy at all. There are four pieces in the order, twobreasts and two wings. The breasts were smaller, and wings I got were larger than I usually see. Overall it was pretty good. Forsides, I got the Potato Salad, which was thicker, and tasted good The other was the cole slaw, which was okay. It was a littlethicker, and creamier than I like. But I might order it again. My biggest complaint was the sides were a little warmer, I hopethey keep them chilled appropiately. Overall, a pretty good dining experience, hard to find fried chicken in Ames. I willreturn! Also, free wifi, outdoor seating, banquet area, did not see a bike rack. Revisited on 6/15/22, same great service, foodwas pretty good. I had the steak burger, with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Started out pretty good, got a little dry at the end.Side was the mashed potatoes and beef gravy. The potatoes were "earthy" tasting as the skins are included. For an appetizer Ihad the chicken gizzards. Probably the best dish so far, they were nice a crunchy. Overall not bad post covid, pricey though. Will return. Read more

They were very low staffed, the staff that was there were friendly but definitely overworked. The food was good enough but... rather pricey for what it was. I would go here to hang out and get a couple drinks but I can't see myself eating here again. Read more

Nice atmosphere for the most part Lots of TV screens but the music was to loud for my tastes. The food was good, although there... were issues on the menu. They said crinkle cut fries but they were normal style fries. Also, one of the sandwiches said openface on Texas toast but then mentioned a bun which we were told was a mistake. Read more

This is such a gem and amazing addition to locally owned Ames restaurants! LOVE the vibe! 90s country music, a beautiful bar,... plenty of space and southern comfort food at its FINEST! The service was great and food came quickly. The food is amazing! Cameour hot and fresh. Sweet tea and lemonade was the perfect pairing. I had the chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes. THREE gravychoices and I chose country. My hubby had the fried chicken, Mac n cheese and applesauce. The chicken is ON POINT! Tender andjuice with a crisp salty breading. A large private event space is available. We chatted with our waiter who said they willhosting bands and events. Foosball, shuffle board and pool table upstairs. YAAS!! ???????????? Read more

Really well designed restaurant. Great place to bring a large group. The menu is a mix between American classic and southern... styled food. Not a lot healthy or vegan options. Majority of the menu is fried. That being said, the fried food excellent, fullof flavor. For me though the real stars of this place are the sides. The fried brussel sprouts we're amazing! Although, Iwould've like the heads up it would be covered in sauce and pickled onions so i could have the option to put to the side. Ialso, highly recommend the black eyed peas salad. The macaroni and cheese and chips we're great as well. I do feel as if okra ismissing, it would be a great addition to the sides menu. Portions for the fried chicken were HUGE easily enough for 3 people. The chicken was moist, not dry, and skin was crispy and well seasoned. Glad to have a good fried chicken in Ames again. Read more
