We absolutely love this place!!! It's some of the best Italian food in the area. It's very modern and the dishes were very well... made. Staff was very skilled and nice and there's a lot of variety. They also have a full bar with inside and outdoor seating.During the day you can also go to their coffee stand and sit and work on your computer. It's right downtown next to the collegeas well. WOW! I just fell in love with a new family friendly fancy place! Casual or Fancy... take your pick! You can have it all here!... Went here for Father's Day!! And oh my...!!!! YES! Service was normal. Excellent cocktails and the salmon dish was divine. I fusilli texture was not what I wanted with lamb, but the flavor was really... good. I would've preferred shredded parmesan vs the granular and not have it be already added to fusilli as well. Will be cominghere again! Read more
Beautiful atmosphere. Some of the food was good but as for my experience, the rigatoni had a hint of goat cheese taste (I always... gag at the goat cheese taste and that was happening). The sauce tasted bad. I tasted my husbands gnocchi and the sauce wasgreat. He also says the gnocchi was good. A bit pricy for what you get. This review is based on the food, drinks and my coworkers comments. The service was NOT good. It was SLOOOOOOOW ????. Food... AMAZING! Drinks STRONG & AMAZING! We stopped in for an impromptu lunch. Great pub like atmosphere and friendly bartender, although I thought the overhead music... was a little loud. Surprisingly the calamari we ordered had jalapenos in it, I have never had it served this way and weabsolutely loved it. It was crispy, salty, and spicy. The aioli sauce was very good too. We also ordered the Chicken flat breadand Chicken fettuccine. The chicken on the flat bread was very flavor ful, but I personally didn't care for the big chunks oftomatoes, but my wife really enjoyed it. The chicken and mushroom fettuccine was creamy and we'll balanced. This was a greatlittle lunch spot and worth coming back to try other menu items. Read more
Bar la Tosca is a great restaurant to check out in Ames downtown. Their cocktails are wonderful, the atmosphere is relaxed, and... the food is always wonderful. The prices are great and it?s easy for anyone to find something they can enjoy. It?s a spotsuitable for dates or meet ups with friends, probably not a restaurant for little kids though as the food is a little moregeared toward an adult palette with more complex flavors that some kids might not enjoy. Highly recommend to anyone looking fora quality meal in a cozy place with great staff and unique, well crafted dishes. Read more
I really wanted to like this place but walking in at 7:15 to find only 2 other parties set the vibe. First, our server was... terrific. Personable, friendly, and kind. The appetizer, pork belly, was delicious. Unfortunately, the rest was not. Ricottagnocchi was overly firm and the sauce uninspired. The rigatoni was, in my opinion, a couple of minutes shy of al dented and thesauce and protein, meh. What really hurt this place was time of service. I enjoy a relaxed atmosphere but 20 minutes for theappetizer to arrive was just too much. 15 minutes after the 1st course was cleared, dinner arrived. Then, half way through mymeal, 25 minutes (I enjoy a relaxed pace), the wine I ordered upon food delivery finally arrived. Keep in mind the were now atotal of 4 groups in the restaurant. 25 minutes for a glass of wine. Shameful. I generally like to give a restaurant a 2ndchance before writing a review.
