Reviews for Ichiban Japanese Restaurant in Albuquerque, NM
If I could give a no star review, I would. I am so disappointed and so upset. I have been coming here since I was 14 years old,... that?s over 15 years of loyalty and even supported during the pandemic shut down. I came in today with my mom, husband and 3children. We order a few menu items and a whole lot of sushi. The miso soup was barely luke warm, the seaweed salad had hair init, (coming from a restaurant manager, hair is my biggest pet peeve) then we order a Yaki soba noodle dish for the kids, whichthey ended up giving us the completely wrong yaki soba dish. My children barely ate there food because it was just thatunappetizing, I sent the seaweed salad back, some of the fish on the sushi didn?t taste right (I worked at Slapfish for years, Iknow what fresh fish tastes like) and to top it all off the servers and waitresses only checked on us twice throughout the hourand a half we were there. Being a restaurant manager, I know how important it is to tip servers, but these group of ladies put agratuity of 23 dollars on our tab, which I believe was about 18%, when I feel they didn?t deserve that because their lack ofinconsistent table side service. I was also listening in on some of the conversations around me, our table wasn?t the onlytable to have gotten wrong orders. I won?t be coming back after todays visit. Also your not suppose to tax gratuity as it?s tipmoney. Read more
The service was very pleasant, but the food could use some tweaks. Our appetizer?s were probably the best dish we had, but the... main courses were way too oily. You could literally see oil sliding down the plate as you eat. Ichiban, you have great food, just cut back on the oil please! Read more
This place is a gem. The soups was so flavorful and authentic. The dishes are not spicy so don?t be scared. The portions are... huge that people can share the entrees. The spicy squid stir-fry was so good. The location has a good amount of tables so it candefinitely accommodate big parties. They also have seating outside. Read more
We just enjoyed a fabulous Japanese meal for my partner's birthday! We rode our bikes through the Bosque and popped out at... Alameda, right at Ichiban! We ordered the Sushi Lunch (one California roll plus 7 assorted nigiri (chef's choice)) and a Build aBowl (with teriyaki salmon, egg rolls, and a side salad with a deliciously bright citrus vinaigrette). Both meals wereaffordable and filling. Our server, Daniel, and his busser were super-friendly, fast, and adept. Also, they were so sweet tobring us a ridiculous amount of water and ice, as we (and our bikes) chose to sit on their lovely shaded patio even though itwas about 100 degrees outside. Thanks Daniel and Ichiban staff for giving us a fun and delicious birthday experience! Read more
The first time was about a year ago, which was before their remodel. For the first visit, I would have given 3 stars. I ordered... soondubu jigae and it wasn't as flavorful as I hoped. The service at that time was also slow and our server wasabsentminded. My recent visit from just two days ago deserves 4 stars. My husband ordered the sashimi dinner and the cuts offish were large, of great quality and very fresh. Both of us were surprised at the great cuts of sashimi. Totally worth themoney. The Volcano roll, which got a lot of great reviews here, was not what I expected. It may be my fault though. I expectedsomething spicy, considering it was called the "volcano" roll, but it was sweet and tangy. If you're in the mood for somethingsweet and tangy, give it a try. If you want spicy, this isn't it. Like I said, it's my own fault. The tempura udon was a nicesurprise though. I expected a bowl with a few pieces of tempura in the broth, but it came with a full plate of tempura placed ontop of the bowl. No soggy tempura! The batter was light and crispy and the shrimp and veggies were cooked perfectly inside. Thenoodles weren't mushy, but had a great chewy texture. The broth was good, but a tiny bit salty for me. There was nothing else inthe broth, except the noodles and tempura bits. I was expecting a few slices of fish cake, green onions, mushroom orsomething. The reasons for not giving Ichiban 5 stars is the salty udon broth and the fact that there was nothing besidestempura bits in the udon. Otherwise, it was a great meal. The service was much better this time as well. I'll definitely bereturning. Next time, I'll ask our server which rolls are spicy, instead of just going by the name. Read more
Finally we found a place that serves Korean Food .... in Rio Rancho! They have Japanese food too ... including sushi. We added... a little spice to the Bulgogi plate. And, for the price, you will not be disappointed. Read more
Had the lunch bowl, teriyaki chicken, tempura vegetables, egg roll and fried rice. Oh miso soup also. Place was extremely busy,... possibly short staffed, but service is as good, prompt. Food was delicious, hot and plentiful. New decor was nice, modem andcomfortable. I noticed a back door entrance/exit. Good to know. I would recommend and will return ! Read more
I would have given this place four stars considering the food is decent, however, the waitress is cut throat. The table next to... us asked if three rolls would be sufficient for two people. She said yes with a smile. Well, I walked past this server by thecomputer and heard her say, ? it?s not enough, you be hungry in an hour.? And laughed. My Mouth dropped - almost ran intoanother table. Straight up gangsta server who gives no F?s. I couldn?t look her in the face for the remaining portion of ourdinner experience. Food is decent. I would order again while avoiding that server. The restaurant is clean and tidy and we allknow we feel at ease when the crevices and cracks are clean. Read more
