Reviews for Chez Axel French Restaurant in Albuquerque, NM
Hadn't been there for about 15 years. Thought it would be a nice change. Reservations for 6:00 pm and we were the only ones... there for the next hour and a half. I guess they called the pianist in since they had customers. Food was not very good exceptfor the French onion soup. No wine! I would caution you to stay away. Waiter was of now help with suggestions and maybe had astroke or ADHD. Read more
An absolute hidden gem. The food was excellent. Bravo to the chef. Loved the escargot. My beef bouraginne amazing.
I will admit it is a gorgeous restaurant and the food sounded incredible, but, unfortunately, we were greeted by a server who... seemed completely stoned and, hearing the conversation with the chef in the back, so was the chef. We literally heard him say?Kay I?ll get their waters? giggle ?1,2,3? chef laughs ?Nice? chef responds. We didn?t feel comfortable with them making ourfood at the prices we saw. It was so disappointing. Read more

Talk about a wonderful and authentic classic French lunch experience!!! We travel to France (where a daughter and her family are... permanently installed) at least twice a year, spending at least 4-8 weeks each stay. Chez Axel is the perfect reincarnation of aFrench neighborhood restaurant with its simple, well prepared, classic French dishes that the French still enjoy on a regularbasis. And yes, even the unpretentious decor and warm hospitality makes us feel "right at home". The fresh spring pea soup andthe French onion soup were spot on. My husband ate every morsel of his Chicken Provencal, mopping up his plate of every lasttrace with a piece of the classic Paris style baguette (!!?in ABQ!). My brother and I thoroughly enjoyed our ham and spinachcrepe made with the classic "Paris style" ham and plenty of freshly lightly cooked spinach. We also appreciated the absoluteauthenticity of the vegetables served-- lightly seasoned and nice and tender the way you'd find them in France--- the French arenot into "crisp tender"... We were so happy, but wanted to be virtuous, so we split their signature chocolate mousse-- anotherperfect example of a chef's personal take on a classic that you'll experience at homey neighborhood restaurants in France. Wehave officially added Chez Axel to our very, very short list of restaurants we patronize almost weekly. We can't to experiencethe dinner menu, as well!!! Read more
This was a great find off the beaten path. Really tasty food and friendly staff. It was our first time there and we'll... definitely be back. My only "complaint" is that the parking lot was very dark at night and made it look like the restaurantwasn't open. I'm not knocking off a star for it, though. Still highly recommend, don't let the dark parking lot fool you, it wasopen and great :-) Read more
I had the lamb ribs and my friend had the salmon. Both were okay. I've had better and I've also had worse. Prices are moderate.... The lamb was 24 bucks and it came with potatoes and green beans. The salmon was in the 20s as well and came with rice and greenbeans. The service was good. They do not serve alcohol here. We had someone playing a piano live music when we were there. Verynice Read more
