A REAL review of Albertson Seafood Market! Okay so I've been going here since the new ownership which is quite a number of... years. It used to be Jericho Seafood but apparently there's been a change of the guard. I've read a one reviewer (a Googlelocal guide actually which is sad that they are not properly educated regarding seafood) complain about lobsters not being fullycleaned since the FDA issued a warning in 2008 about Tomalley being toxic. Yes so can Apricots! But you don't go eating 100Apricots in one sitting! Tomalley in American (Maine) lobsters contain a substance called polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)which in extremely large quantities can be toxic. Other than that eating the Tomalley of 1 or 2 lobsters certainly will not bea problem. So for that, shame on the reviewer for their bad review! I read another Google Guide review this place as if itwere a 5 star restaurant writing about the wine and waiters! Are you kidding me? Do these reviewers pay attention to whatplace they are writing about? This is a seafood shop people! With that said, this place is CLEAN! The seafood is fresh (forthe most part) and thee staff is helpful. NOW come holiday season, they need to check their orders better! They are so rushed,they miscount clams, mussels and shrimp when you pre-order. For now on I will insist on a count in front of me. 3 years in arow and I've been getting shorted. That's an average of $22 per year. I mention it and they offer to make up for it, I onlyask that they use better processes to confirm the orders. That falls on deaf ears apparently. Once, I got a batch of badmussels (oil and mud inside of about 10 of them) and I did tell them. Again I ate the loss (no I didn't eat the mussels, growup). They do have a good selection and they are a bit pricy but for clean seafood, it is worth it. Based on my review I amsure you can understand why they are getting only 3 stars. My family had been regular customers and bought lobsters during the holidays for 20 years. I ordered two lobsters killed and... cleaned. They left the tomalley (green stuff) inside and I did not see it until after it was cooked. The FDA warns not to eattomalley as it is potentially toxic. When I called the store and explained the lobster was not completely cleaned, Giovannawould not listen to me and was not concerned at all with satisfying a longtime customer. I see the market has had a change inownership and is no longer affiliated with Syosset Seafood. The store is also now poorly run when you try to pick up an order onthe holidays. I will not return. They went above and beyond! I am from Florida and moved to New York recently and have not been able to get my hands on Florida... fish for a reasonable price. They not only ordered me only 4lbs at market price but they skinned it and cut it in the portions Iasked and individually wrapped it for me. I ordered the mahi mahi on a Friday and i got the call Tuesday morning that it wasin. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful! I worked here 38 years ago and was happy to return. The staff answered all my historical "over the years" questions and I... enjoyed the walk down memory lane. Great clean market, every item setup neat. Sure, many changes, and you have to feature ashark on the back wall for the kids ????! Fresh fish and deli/counter items abound, all mouth watering. My dad loved the freshflounder I made for Him that evening, but really I could have enjoyed much more. All items appealing, with many aesthetic storedevelopments, and great items.
