I love a family owned diner and Gateway did not disappoint. Great homemade soup. Huge portion of turkey. Stuffing was a little... wet for me. Next time I'd ask for it on the side instead of underneath the turkey. Super friendly waitress. Reasonable prices. Read more

Was waiting for a car purchase to get processed. Decided to stop in for breakfast @3pm. Food was alright Asked for over easy,... got scrambled. They needed salt. French toast was pretty good. Waiter seemed "checked-out". Otherwise, it was good. Read more

We have been eating here on a regular basis for decades. Always enjoyed the food and service. The last 3 orders for take out... were more than disappointing?so they?re off our list now. This evening they forgot the coleslaw & pickle and served my chickensandwich on the stalest hardroll ever (so hard it couldn?t be cut with a knife much less eaten). Combine that with their priceincreases and it?s a hard pass. I?d rather spend an additional $10 somewhere else and get food that?s edible and enjoyable thatincludes the items it?s supposed to include. Read more

My father and I decided to stop for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. I got a Reuben and it was very good! Fries are nice... and crunchy too! You can also substitute sweet potato fries, which were very good as well! Prices were fairly decent as well.Would go back for lunch again. Read more

Tons of menu options which was great for our three-generation dinner with a picky toddler. Quick service with a friendly... waitress and pleasing, clean environment! The chocolate cream pie was to die for! My husband said the Reuben with pastrami wasthe best he'd ever had! Read more

The Gateway Diner is an Albany mainstay serving up good food with great service. I don't know many diners which cater to such a... wide clientele. They offer many diner standards hash that they make in-house, to meatloaf, to incredible looking cakes and pies. This diner also has a liquor license allowing them to serve up adult beverages as well. Whatever you're looking for, it seemsthey've got you covered. I didn't have high expectations going in other than to possibly have to wait for a table given howfull the parking lot was. However, the restaurant is much bigger than I thought and we were immediately seated. Our serverquickly greeted us and made up for the lackluster welcome that our 'host' gave us. She was friendly, answered our questions andoffered suggestions, and she was there to check on us a couple of times throughout our meal. She definitely gave us 5-starservice. Our server said they just updated up their menu so it seems their online menu varies a bit from their current dishes.I believe I got the Gateway omelette which now comes with spinach, mushrooms, onions, hash, and cheese which was a deliciouscombination. The corn beef hash is made in-house and was tender and full of flavor. I added onions to my home fries and a sideof rye toast. All was good. My husband had the poached eggs. He said the hollandaise sauce was great. The only short comingswere that my omelette was a bit over done - crisp on the outside, the poached eggs were overcooked, and the well done home frieswere more tough than crispy. Despite that, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Great value as there's plenty of food for the costand great service from our server. We'll definitely be going back for more. Read more

The first thing I couldn't help but notice was this smell when I entered the building. I should have turned around then but we... stayed. Had a little crowd but was very short staffed based on what the server said. The server was ok. Not good but not awful.Ordered liver and onions with a salad, mash potatoes and kale. The only decent thing was the kale and onions on the top of theliver. The liver was tough and flavorless. Ranch dressing tasted like tartar sauce, mash potatoes was instant. I eat instantpotatoes but this was just not good. My mom had home fries no seasoning nothing potatoes still somewhat hard. She did take thefood off my bill. THANK YOU. Would not recommend this place to anyone at all. If I could give it no stars I would. Don't wasteyour money here. Read more
