Reviews for Spice I Am in Alameda, CA
Nice looking restaurant but service was ? We came for lunch and were totally ignored by the waitress. Maybe she was... overwhelmed but we decided to leave and then had a wonderful lunch at Burma Star. Much better. Read more

We love this place, its affordable and the food is good. We really like their fresh shrimp rolls, the curries and their hot... tea. I've tried other dishes as well but we always order the fresh rolls and a curry. The peanut sauce that comes with the rollsis delicious. We are so glad that we can dine indoors again since the first time we tried it it all came in boxes and it's adifferent experience compared to having your food served in a table. The service is always nice, our waiter is always checkingon us to see if we need something else or to refill our hot tea Read more
Spice I Am (not to be confused with Will.I.Am) is tucked in between Tucker's ice cream and a local video store. Modern, no... frills decor with cool large minimalist pieces on the walls. Lunch service was swift and efficient, with affordable specials. Iwent for their marinated short ribs, which included a mound of brown rice, steamed vegetables (cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli), and a delicious salad with ginger dressing to start off, all for 9 bucks! When I asked for it to be spicy, my serverinstead offered to bring the spice mini-cart. While the spice mini-cart trifecta indeed packed some heat (crushed red pepper, chili sauce, pickled jalapenos), I have to say that pickled jalapeños are no substitute for pickled thai chilies. Or fresh thaichilies. Or even fresh jalapeños for that matter. The short ribs were deliciously spiced and grilled. A good amount of fat offthe bone, but that's what one would expect from short ribs. As I was making my way through the plate (good portion), I foundthat the rice wasn't really adding to the meal. Upon paying and leaving, I asked the server about the option of ordering mylunch special without any rice, and what impact it would have in terms of portion. She responded that they would be happy tooffer more steamed vegetables, which would actually be pretty cool. This is the best second best Thai food I had in Alameda, after Toomie's Thai. Four stars very well earned, and I will certainly take the 3-minute walk from work (Hearing Zone) to comeback here! Read more
Unfortunately, the photo is missing some coconut rice because it's my favorite. Often bring out of town guests because quality... is consistent and wait staff is exceptional. My favorite is the eggplant. I often try what others are eating which is delicious. Read more

This was my second time visiting Spice I Am. The first time I was in a group and there were several others in the restaurant and... the food was really good. The second time it was just my friend and I with no one else in the place and again it was delicious.Different meals, different circumstances and both were wonderful. Highly recommend it. Read more
